Well to be fair I dont think they'd have got very far trying to change NRL scheduling.

From a fan perspective it's brilliant so I'm not upset at it personally. Canes v Chiefs should be a good game and rolling straight into the Wahs after that makes for a good day. Definitely better than last weekend when Blues and Warriors clashed on Sat night.

Just pissed at the bullshit PR spin trying to make it look like they're doing us all a favour when they're only just looking out for themselves.
You hate pr spin? Wrong planet bro. Down here on earth, we spin the benefits of war...
I can live with a little broadcast spin with scheduling.. like go nuts, all good.

Yea I probably shouldn't have been surprised. And if it delivers a schedule that lets me watch what I want then all good I suppose.
Sometimes the forces of evil by accident give us what we wanted anyway lol.
I'm remember once as a kid being sent to my room! Little did they know, I had already actually planned on it.

“We don’t want a Warriors fan being lost to a second New Zealand team, there has to be a new market of fans.”

Rules out Wellington
not really, at least not to a significant degree more than Christchurch. There would be very few active (game attending) fans who’s switch to either because of the distance.

My best hope in the short term is that NZ 2 happens soonest, and the two NZ clubs get into a mad "turf war" over secondary markets - one that makes home-away-from-home games a vital cog in getting active fans (and revenue) from elsewhere in NZ.
That’s probably the best reason to go with Christchurch over Wellington apart from the stadium- will create more of a turf war over the lower north island. If Wellington go a side they’d probably more or less get the South Island by default (because not Auckland, lol)

lol settle down… Auckland vs Canterbury was pretty much like that once, before Union got shit. But if you’re talking in the social media age then no.
What? This is the beginning of a Cowboys vs Broncos, Souths vs Roosters or Collingwood vs Essendon.
Only far bigger.
O they had a little Super Rugby battle lol... this is the NRL! the biggest Rugby comp on planet Earth.
New Zealand has nothing close to this! Nothing close! It will be epic, Melbourne cup esk

Toe-ing the corporate line.

The current situation means the Warriors get NZ by default. I love the Warriors but NZ 2 is a necessary kick in the pants for them.
Some people just really can’t see the bigger picture can they.

another NZ team in the NRL especially on the South Island creates an instant NZ rivalry it also creates more media buzz and headlines which benefit everyone.

more eyes on the game in NZ and more people attending games in NZ and buying merchandise etc means more $$$

The North vs South Rugby and Cricket games were always decent they just never really settled on a regular schedule to make it something more. The old school NPC Auckland Canterbury were pretty feral as were the early Blues v Crusaders clashes before they got a bit stale

Also love the Warriors but it’d be a bit of a wake up for them if they actually had to put some effort into keeping the non Auckland fans. Although can’t see too many North islanders particularly Wellingtonians supporting a Canterbury based side

In business, ANY company with a monopoly will typically defend that monopoly.

When I say defend, I really mean fight like a mofo - by ALL MEANS NECESSARY - as if their very life DEPENDS on keeping their monopoly.

Will they lie? Sure.

Will they try to use their "connections"? You betcha.

Will they appeal to emotion and wax lyrical about how they've always been there for us,
despite half-heartedly & half-assedly relying on the monopoly to funnel customers their way
- and engaging with markets only when it suits them? FOR SURE.

I for one look forward to being courted by two opposing NZ NRL clubs that have every motivation to secure fans from a number of NZ locations.. and my fandom is there for *whatever club* can seriously engage with Wellington the most (Whether that's NZ2 or Warriors) - BUT the day NZ 2 is publically & officially confirmed by the NRL is the day my support of the Warriors is no longer a given.

Now, you may call this disloyal if you want.. but for me, being a fan of the GAME as much as the club.. and falling into following the Warriors for lack of any other NZ option in 1995.. well, having a local (or at least local-in-part) NRL club is what's gonna hook me from there-on-in.

If they give us games, guaranteed yearly games - and the Warriors don't - I'm theirs.

No kidding.

Warriors would be my 2nd fave team... but I'd start buying & wearing merch for NZ2 & they'd be the one I support first of all - if they're engaging with Wellington, that is.
Its the wahs

How can you ever spurn them

lol... but hey, I guess it's a similar situation that folk in Tasmania are processing with respect to AFL right now - there's going to be some churn of support from existing clubs to one that's nearer to them (well in this case IN their state) - likewise for me.. and I'm ready & prepared for that eventuality.

It's not being disloyal, it's being pragmatic & being a consumer - and reserving my right to support which-ever engages with my region. I realise it could change yet again if Wellington gets a team of our own in another decade or so - but so be it.

I'm here to be woo-ed!!

When they used to play in Wellington it was usually a tigers home game or dogs ?

reality is they are an Auckland team and the rest is lip service

playing some games in chch has only strengthened the case for another team not hurt it

obviously if Wellington had a stadium like chch they would be nz2

even a crowd of 16k can get swallowed up in the cake tin

Good points, and it kinda leans into the whole "engaging with Wellington when it suits them" narrative, that on many occasions it wasn't the Warriors taking a game to other parts of NZ but Aussie clubs.

I know that the Warriors have limited home games to move, and too many games taken to other NZ locations devalues season memberships in Auckland, BUT a game per year in Christchurch & a game per year in Wellington would've given the 2 biggest population centres after Auckland an annual focus, an annual EVENT.

Even if one is a trial (meaning they sacrifice a solitary Auckland home game in the regular season)
