Penrith had a casino behind themYeah, and?
It doesn't change the fact they had more fans than Penrith. Your mate said no one would have cared if Cowboys went bust. Facts are facts.

ARL didn't do anything for the Crushers. They punted the Chargers, despite the club having money in the bank. They refused to help the Cowboys in 1995, despite offering assistance to Newcastle in 1988. All of this information is publicly available. It's been shown to you numerous times. You just don't want to accept it.News ltd killed off the crushers
arl tried to keep them alive
then brought them back in
News ltd made it a condition of the peace deal they be killed off and also no second Brisbane nrl side until 2015ARL didn't do anything for the Crushers. Ok, two points to that...North Islanders trying to explain why and how they should be swayed by a South Island bid...
The arrogance is palpable.
No, they aren't a Wellington team lol.
It's hard to tell if these are tails of why you should support the South Island bid or why the bloody hell should they accept you?
For the record, the South Island is doing just fine without you.
Just make a 3rd team for Wellington, way down the track, that southern orcas brand seems to be pretty well thought out... best to capitalise on the Christchurch bidders first then a decade later ask for interest in Wellington after thatOk, two points to that...
1 - I was theorizing what a Christchurch-based team could brand as, *if* they wanted to pull-in support from the Wellington region. I'm probably more open to it than many others here (thanks to Wellington's history of losing to Christchurch based teams - not just in Rugby Union, but often in that sport)
And 2 - It's a numbers game. Christchurch has about 400k, Canterbury province a total of 600k, the whole South Island 1.2 Million.. right?
Well Auckland city *alone* has 1.4 million.
Given that, some kind of outreach to the Welington population (Wellington region is over 500k people) sounds like a pretty good idea, doesn't it?
Once chch are in and doing ok the need for a team in Wellington will be apparent since neither club can service it reallyJust make a 3rd team for Wellington, way down the track, that southern orcas brand seems to be pretty well thought out... best to capitalise on the Christchurch bidders first then a decade later ask for interest in Wellington after that
Warriors already take a few there per season, I think the tigers were the home team actually, and a pre season sell outOnce chch are in and doing ok the need for a team in Wellington will be apparent since neither club can service it really
but the nrl teams should be taking home games to the districts around them eg chch to Dunedin and is there anyone else on the South Island that has a decent ground
Someone needs to be playing games in Hamilton ?
ARL agreed to News Ltd's stipulation.News ltd made it a condition of the peace deal they be killed off and also no second Brisbane nrl side until 2015
Pre season ? They should get some proper nrl gamesWarriors already take a few there per season, I think the tigers were the home team actually, and a pre season sell out
I'm saying one of them was a pre season, there was another I think just recentlyPre season ? They should get some proper nrl games
Nz clubs should do it so they aren’t just representing Auckland chch or Wellington if they get inI'm saying one of them was a pre season, there was another I think just recently
Edit. Sorry it was last year 25k vs tigers, but they also took games to Napier and Wellington, and this year to Christchurch, and Hamilton (pre season)
You're an idiot, that was an anti Canterbury/Chch/South Island post. I'm a Warriors supporter. You're trying to make the match out to be a grudge match yet you flip to attacking me for having the grudge.Seems we're missing out on a real league supporter lol
I've herd this rhetoric before and you know what, we don't want you, the game doesn't want you. The game doesn't need you and will be far better off without you. " supporter " lol
Don't let the door hit you on your way out.
I don't dislike the Crusaders team, but Cantabs ... well. Let's just say I hated the 6th months I lived in Chch. The team's identity strikes me as a key here.
To be fair to the bids, I'm not gonna let my hate for the Crusaders make me instantly repelled to a Christchurch-based NRL team - especially if the team isn't in red & black (that's unlikely because the Perth Bears would have that staked-out), and isn't "Christchurch Somethings" or "Canterbury Somethings".
"South Island" wouldn't make sense if trying to reach out to Wellington, but "Southern" or just using the nickname like The Dolphins do? Yeah.. that could work.
What will you do if an NRL player is maimed or killed in Port Moresby during a riot?
For the record, the South Island is doing just fine without you.
I think this will put the South Island of NZ on the map of the global sporting world, they will have a franchise in the biggest Rugby comp in the world and in all likely hood be playing in Vegas boasting a strong 12 million dollar 30 man squad.. this is the big time, they've made it. They won't need shit.Ok, two points to that...

The NRL are leading the race, there's no comparable Rugby comp in the world. The South Island will be in that!
None of this happens without the money for the PNG team, theres a thought that each new licence will now cost a certain amount, so these bidders need to pay each of the existing clubs, and besides there is no rush from the nrl to get to 20 teams, nor do they need a Christchurch team in 2026,, just coz the magical roofed stadium is completed by then, if anything they need one by 2030 not before, you can't upsell a broadcaster when you've already created the content, and they might not be happy with it, we want the team to come in to increase the rights, then if it tanks well too badI think this will put the South Island of NZ on the map of the global sporting world, they will have a franchise in the biggest Rugby comp in the world and in all likely hood be playing in Vegas boasting a strong 12 million dollar 30 man squad.. this is the big time, they've made it. Wellington needs to get it's shit together if it wants in... Christchurch should be 18, Perth will be 19 but 20.. ? Are PNG really going to pull it off???Wellington..They've got time to make a case right? Well, what's the best case they could make? A successful Christchurch .
I'm cheering for this outcome, you shouldn't be choosing between Auckland and Christchurch but the only reason there's a Christchurch is because Auckland was successful..and the only way Wellington gets in is With a successful Christchurch..
I really think it will play out how it should- NZ needs 3 teams.
Gotta start somewhereThe NRL is right up there with the EPL, NBA, NFL for global popularity right?
