St George still has its own comp up to under 12s. After that it’s consumed by the southern competition dominated by Cronulla. It’s another comp that’s not adapted to the new inclusive approach. Even manly jumped on board with it last year.
I wouldn’t have thought the sharks were so innovative

your new ceo must be good

being the club whore I am I had season tickets for a year down there just to watch Preston Campbell and David peachy

sadly Chris Anderson was determined to ruin that so I ended up following Preston to Penrith lol

when he and lang won the comp I was so happy

I put a lot of this down to development & coaching

Though the Islander youth size is having a effect of turning kids who grow later in life away

That's what's happened here, the "white" guys tended to come from regions and the PI guys from the cities. With PI youth being bigger you are very hard pressed to find any "white" guys playing in the cities.
And now with the regions unable to field teams there are almost no "white" guys coming through at all.
And now with PI and Māori playing Basketball instead of Contact sports numbers are falling off the cliff.

No it doesnt

But 6 players per NRL club who earn a NRL Development contract will share $650k under the new agreement
So do you know what the Jersey Flegg Cup average salary will be? @Iamback stated an 18 year old could get 70k so I assumed he was meaning all U21 players.

Lots of good things happening in Sharksville much to the annoyance of our resident pests

Yes a few could but they are targeted players

But in general they wont

Before the new CBA the old CBAs usually meant there was a tiering of contracts on average

Players 26-30 $82k minimum wage
Dev players had a max wage of $60k

RG contract players below this around 50k

U21 would be below this around 30k

But the only limits are tracked at NRL Top 36 level

There used to be a $250k NYC salary cap in 2016 when the Salary cap was around 6-7mil. So this has probably doubled by now, though it restructured into the Development 6 players rather than all 25 players

But with NRL player 30 being the old max for RG extras and U21 we are seeing his minimum wage going up from proposed 2022 $82k to $120k minimum. And we are seeing the Dev player cap going up from $240k to $650k. But there is talk of this covering 10 extra RG players rather than 6 players(tbc)

This CBA change will drag up the wages of the U21 pool of players by most likely by 20% maybe something like $600k for 20 players so around a new $30k average

So where there no formal lower tier salary caps, there are implied caps in place

But there is nothing stopping say Easts paying 60k average ie max wage across multiple teams down to U12s

Thats not directly a $ issue

It is a development strategy issue

There used to be a age/weight based limit in the past. Was anything like that used in NZ?

There is in Auckland I believe, but in other places there isn't the money or players to have separate teams.

Even if it works out to be $30k. There is some education tied to that.

30k and a degree paid is pretty good going and is why the top end of neither code will struggle for players

So where did your $70k figure come from?

The way forward for juniors in general and nz in particular is for clubs to get bigger development grants

the biggest thing would be to give clubs salary cap bonuses (greater than now) for developing juniors so there’s a genuine reward for investing millions each year into finding juniors

paying junior clubs transfer frees would also help

the system as is doesnt reward clubs who spend money developing loads of juniors it’s just easier to sit back and see which kids develop into good players and offering them overs

there’s nothing better than seeing what Penrith are doing lately

Crichton wants to give up close to 2 million dolllars to stay loyal to the team that developed him

if clubs had big incentives to invest in juniors you would find junior spending going through the roof

NZ 2 would deliver a massive blow to any hopes that fumbleball would have of having a AFL club there, but it would have to follow another NRL club in Queensland, and that in affect would stop any further of expansion of AFL into Queensland and be a huge blow for Vicky Kicky house.

How many people play the game in New Zealand?

How many clubs are around?
While looking for the numbers I found this (not sure if it's already been posted by @Te Kaha, apologies if already posted) but it should serve to give some pause to the bolshiness of some posters:

Sport New Zealand statistics show playing numbers in rugby league have declined faster than any sport in the country's biggest city during the past 10 years.

But it's since 2019 where the situation has become most concerning for Auckland Rugby League (ARL) administrators, with participation figures dipping by almost 10 per cent during those four seasons.

male numbers are down by almost 2000 players, or 23 per cent.

That difference between the two oval-ball codes is perhaps, in part, evidenced in the latest figures out of Auckland Rugby.

In contrast to the ARL, that organisation's senior playing numbers were up 12 per cent this year, while secondary school numbers experienced a small but still notable three per cent rise.

Russell said they've looked closely at what Auckland Rugby have done to arrest dipping participation in the 15-player code, with a lot of the players rugby league is losing going across to union.
