The captain. For the benefit of @Wb1234 who earlier in the thread was so concerned with the private school dominance of rugby in NZ, the current NZ secondary schools team only has one private schoolboy.

He's from Hamilton Boys. The private schoolboy is an islander on the wing. The captain.
They've trademarked Brisbane Wolves and Brisbane Bengals.Something new would be better. Tigers, Magpies & Jets for that matter have all been used in the NRL/NSWRL before. Magpies is the name of probably the biggest sporting club in Australia and a former/merged NRL club. Tigers are in both the NRL and AFL. Jets has been used by Newtown and an A-League side.
I’ve always liked ‘Hornets’ for an Ipswich/West Brisbane side. The type of Jet used at Amberley would be a unique compromise.
I hate to post some actual NZ2 expansion news in this thread, but have just seen this recent ( unfortunately pay walled) article…
Business of Sport: the dream of a second NRL club in NZ is alive
A consortium has been formed with the goal of creating a second National Rugby League franchise in New Zealand. The group, which favours Christchurch as the club...businessdesk.co.nz
From what we can see, it seems that there is now a local consortium over there to get a second NZ team, with their preference being Christchurch, and a target date of 2030…
Whlist I welcome this, I hope that the NRL moves quicker and gets a second team over there before then…
Im thinking that times are now going well for the NRL … they need to start picking things up a bit in terms of expansion. … in hindsight they should have brought in team 18 by now for 2025, but probably too late by now….
I would go with Perth for Team 18 for 2026… and I would announce it this offseason… Im assuming that there would be provisions in their current TV deal to get more money mid term for another game/ TV slot … ( say Sunday night 6pm) … this should more than fund the new Perth team…
whilst I have often said that I don’t like the idea of bringing in two expansion teams at once… I would bite the bullet and bring in two of NZ2 , Brisbane 3 and PNG for 2028 with my preference being the first 2…
you would have 20 teams and 10 games in time for the next TV deal in 2028… happy days I think
Hmmm that sounds very, well non developed. A group of Canterbury region Rl leaders. They need some serious business people with money behind them. Interesting to hear no one previously has shown any interest in owning a Christchurch club. Poor bloke speaking sounded nervous as hell!23:30 Onwards interview with Tony Kidd of ‘South Island NRL bid’. They also have Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages under that name for those who care to look in to it.
Sounds very much in its infancy.
And he’s probably there on a sports scholarship too, rather than from a rich familyHe's from Hamilton Boys. The private schoolboy is an islander on the wing.

answer on where mOney is coming from was very weak. Investment from states, opportunities with block chain or fan owned. Hmmm.
hopefully the ripple grows and brings some serious backers to them. Like in WA having a rich consortium and local league working together can only be a good thing.
its a start and may be ready for team 20, maybe.
Tbf theres no way our media manager would have let me in front of a mic sounding like that. Ill prepared and nervous as hell. The interviewer sounded sorry for him towards the end!Yeh I was hoping for more, hopefully they can get something happening but the interview didn’t exactly inspire me with confidence.

Why does anyone do that in any city with any sport? Because they are attracted to a growing sport? Because they for whatever reason have an affinity with the new club? Because the club has a run of success and they jump on the bandwagon... there are many reasons. Our sport is capable of growing you knowWhy would somebody who doesn’t already go to Mt smart and support the warriors suddenly decide to do so to support another Auckland based NRL team playing out of the same stadium?
Wellington RU are a mismanaged basket case, made worse by their ownership stake in the Canes which they mix up with the province (which they shouldn't do), but NZR wont let them fall over because the national head offices are based there.Stuff

Given this Wellington maybe the better choice for a new nrl team
Auckland isn’t brisbane and the warriors aren’t the broncos!
The two Dolphin death riders. You two were wrong about that one and there is no reason why a city of 1.7m people that shows an affection for the game can't host two teams in the future, especially with the declining fortunes of Super RugbyI'm not sure that there's demand for a second club in Auckland. Splitting games like that would murder both club's season ticket numbers as well.
BTW, any "fan" who supports both teams in a city is a dickhead bandwagoner who is hedging their bets. Imagine a person claiming to be both a e.g. City and Utd fan lol, they'd deserve everything they got.
I un-potato you good sir, welcome to the lightExactly. Longterm fans have an emotional connection with their club. I wish PR would understand that's why I feel so strongly about BRL clubs and resent his dismissive attitude towards their history. He wants to demote the Queensland Cup to third tier status by introducing reserve grade and not allow any more clubs, like the Brisbane Tigers, to progress to the NRL. All in the name of "expansion". He wouldn't like it if his club was thrown on the scrapheap in the name of progress.
It's why I no longer call for rationalisation of Sydney. I was selfish and bitter like PR for too long.
To be honest PR didn't death ride the dolphins, he was rooting for them for expansion sake, just didn't think they'd travel as good as they did, and then they lost all depth by the end of the season to land around where he predicted anyways, herbie and fleggler will help boost their squad, under wayne that's a tough side to beat..The two Dolphin death riders. Sure, could be our gws lol what’s point of difference a second auckland team would have? Again we need new markets not sipping from the same cup everytime. The two Dolphin death riders. Yep just like perfSure, could be our gws lol
Pert would be more like the lions. Decent sized club taking it to the opposition and doing well when the club does well.Yep just like perf
Yes and the Canterbury bloke Averrillo is no slouch either. Katoa having a year under his belt in first grade and if O`Sullivan can stay on the paddock they should be in for an improved year.To be honest PR didn't death ride the dolphins, he was rooting for them for expansion sake, just didn't think they'd travel as good as they did, and then they lost all depth by the end of the season to land around where he predicted anyways, herbie and fleggler will help boost their squad, under wayne that's a tough side to beat..
As for Auckland having 2 clubs, I agree sharing mt smart isn't ideal, but having the 2nd one in waikato is better, its set up an actual local derby, and a north island rivalry, basically in the bulk of the population of NZ, also making the southerners a tad bit jealous, it might stir them up to enter a bid for a 3rd licence, being left out
Pert is a shampoo and conditioner 2 in 1,Pert would be more like the lions. Decent sized club taking it to the opposition and doing well when the club does well.
