There shouldn't be a need for Warriors to be flying 4 development age sides to Australia every other week. Its a damming indictment of the lack of development of NZ RL that the systems in NZ are so low that it is necessary. Huge expense and imposition when for at least 2 of those age groups those kids should be in NZ comps of equal quality to the Australian ones.

This is what I highlighted in the first 10 pages of this abomination ;) , NZRL needs to develop decent pathways for NZ. Even these current teams are limited in numbers of how many schoolboys they can accomodate.

If you had a SG Ball and HM equivalent comps in NZ it would develop a lot more talent. Problem is NRL clubs would probably cherry pick the best kids out and move them to Oz anyway.

The structure of NZ Rugby league should be something like:
Minimum:* 2 NRL team *
*national 8 team comp *
( Q cup level feeding the NRL teams)
..With 3 to 4 divisions
* 8 premier school national comp*

Only all feasible with a minimum 2 NRL teams 🤷‍♂️
You can't have 8 teams feeding 1 club..
1 club - you're flying to Aus.

NZ2 elevates Rugby in NZ immensely!

In an ideal world there'd be 3.
1 in Auckland, 1 in Wellington and 1 in Christchurch.
I think if you had that at the top then having high quality comps underneath it on north and south island becomes far more achievable. Its annoying bit for around $40mill a year investment RL could see massive strides in NZ.

With Rugby league we are really just relying on NRL and Super league realistically. The Q cup and nsw cup relies on the NRL clubs for players both aspirational and fringe NRL.

New zealand needs that same benefit of at least 2 NRL clubs to run a decent quality feeder comp.

Actually agree with something similar, a National comp at a QLD cup comparable level and a high tier pronvincial schools comp in tandem with the Auckland schools comp would do wonders.
Challenge would be to even the playing field between Auckland teams (you’d probably need to split Auckland in 4) and the rest of the country teams - the current NPC first division is actually a pretty good spread of teams.
I’d even suggest playing it in Summer, you’d have a few more Union players giving the sport a try and may be able to attract a few fringe NSW/QLD cup players wanting to get exposure to help raise the standard. Also a gap in the market

The NRL sides cherry picking the best talent they can is effectively what's already happening, so that wouldn't change. What would change is that there'd still be a pathway in RL for the majority that miss out being poached by the NRL sides, or don't want to move to Australia, and while better than nothing, the Warriors entering into the SG and HM doesn't do a great deal to address that problem.

You need local solutions to local problems, and as everybody's been saying it for ages; this sort of development and grassroots investment needs to happen in NZ, and we'll be waiting forever if we continue wait for the NZRL to figure it's shit out. Somebody's gotta step in, and frankly you could do worse than a benevolent dictatorship from the NRL so long as they're serious about improving the situation and come with genuine expertise and financial backing.

are people serious believing that rl could over take rugby union in nz?
Ok, we'll ignore the NRL budget...ffs

Union gets money through internationals.
League gets its money through the NRL

They are not even closely structured in anyway, so please f**k off with this DUMB comparison.

Through the year Union has Super Rugby
Through the year League has the NRL

Are you seriously suggesting that the NRL can't become more popular than Super Rugby??

Nobody suggested that the Kiwis will be more popular than the All blacks- different thing !.

It just shows you how common recreational drug use is in Australian society.

In the men's game it's only 20k participants.

It's funny how people are getting fanny flutters about PNG player development and yet NZ is dying on the vine.

And we'll forget that Rugby league came from Rugby union guys converting to League.
