Newscorp And Rugby League

The days since the nine/fox has been a real eye opener for a lot of league folk I think. I always knew there was a tendency towards afl by news ltd but the childish sniping and level of BS they have come out with since has surprised even me. Their sponsored spin doctors at Fairfax and news have not even tried to hide the agenda!

Seven have paid $900m over 6 years, I do not have the figures from last time but that seems like a reduction for the FTA component. Seems that Murdoch has flown in to grandstand and spite the NRL by paying over the odds for the AFL.

What do you reckon the NRL will get from Foxtel and digital rights in the end? a billion $together a reasonable target. The prospect of a ninth game if used should provide enough for a substantial increase

Is it really only 900m FTA? Christ, how much have Foxtel stumped up?

Foxtel $1.3 b
Seven $900m
Telstra $300m

So what are people worried about, we already have over 900 million for FTA with more games live. We still have pay TV LOL, streaming, International games, Sky NZ and so on. When you look at it without panicking, the NRL will probably still come out in front at the end of the day and it's one year shorter contract.

The numbers all depend on the options taken but Fairfax reports the NRL are optimistic of getting around the $2 billion+ mark.

That would be around $400 million+ per year compared to the AFL's $418 million. If/when it happens the per year funding gap percentage between the NRL & AFL would close considerably. A $2.083 billion deal would see them be on par.

Exactly, the value of the afl deal does not worry me at all in fact I don't care what they get as they will piss it away on waste projects like the suns and giants for another 6 years for no return.

Na, better to go into a blind panic.

I'd be happy with $300m pa with a cheaper deal to try a streaming service instead of Foxtel. It's more than enough to run the game and fend off Union and AFL will continue to piss even more cash up against the wall in NSW/QLD. It'd be good to bloody Uncle Rupeys nose before they put the bastard in the ground.

This.

I just love that Murdoch has his panties in a knot.

Gee the game has come a long way in a short period of time.

Afl deal equates to $2.08 bill over 5 years.

So Smith needs to deliver around $1.2bill from Telstra, Fox and Sky.

Talk about netflix, google etc. Who would produce the games? Don't these companies buy finished products?

Why does he need to deliver that? What happens if he only delivers 1 billion?

Is it really that important to win a dick measuring contest with the AFL?
