Nor because of hotd or afl

No where in that article does it say the new buyer won't streamline stuff.

Most sport you can buy the pictures direct from the sport, If that is what it becomes locally then profit the sports get is less

No nrl no foxtel

ususally when someone wants to sell something they don’t destroy it’s value

but who knows maybe you are right and Murdoch doesn’t care about foxtel value

Foxtel will know which sports are generating the subscribers and attracting the advertisers. Its obviously lucrative, at a certain price point, for them to hold the rights to the countries two main sports. The value of NRL will only increase substantially if there are other bidders for NRL that Fox have to outbid.

Who says Fox are paying each sport what they are worth ?

there’s one sport that built foxtel. The other is filler content

Exactly they aren’t paying nrl what it’s worth
they are paying what they have been allowed to get away with because of A) no competition for the rights B) poor negotiators at the NRL.
Like I said they arent a charity, they will pay the min they can to purchase the products they on sell to get the max profit for their shareholders.

Sure, i mean thats reflected in the deals theyve gotten since 2002 when the AFL came over from C7 on paytv

Superleague war was done by 2002 when the AFL came over. No doubt News ownership paid a part.

Exactly they aren’t paying nrl what it’s worth

They are paying both sides what the market has determined its worth. Not necessarily their fault that opposing bidders have been few and far between. This isnt the 90s with Nine and Sevens keep off the grass agreements anymore.

I think they vastly overpaid for the AFL because they got a ridiculous cut price deal on the NRL.

This makes no business sense whatsoever. Foxtel is answerable to NWS shareholders. And in this case there was a decent offer from Paramount to compete with. Will that be there next year or the year after when NRL negotations are in full swing? who knows.

Maybe Vlandys will ensure the viability of Fox Sports, like he did during COVID, and extend the tv rights with them for cents in the dollar.

Again you are assuming that want Foxtel as it is now, depends on the buyer. Say it is HBO they can run their stuff on it.

Get sport that is produced off site and the outlay is less.

Especially if NRL what to break it up.

Even then. Certain games/timeslots are better off.

NRLW tomorrow starts at 11.30am and is on both ch9 and Fox. Given that poor timeslot both would be losing money.

HBO aren’t spending 2 billion on foxtel just to run their own stuff which is already shown on there anyway

the large bulk of the 2 billion valuation comes from having the rugby league rights

they lose it it’s worth probably 500 million at best

Foxtel are going to lose the rights eventually.. so if that’s what their (Foxtel) worth is dependent on .. it’ll doesn’t seem a wise investment … maybe HBO should just talk directly to the NRL
