Cricket Australia also have a lucrative overseas (India) tv market. Overall, when India tour and should they be able to fix the BBL, that's probably where they see the upside.

As for NRL, can we pls not flog this dead horse. Ok deal is sub optimal but not much we can do about it now. If the next deal is a dud, then right to make some noise.
Cricket wise on the field, it’s a great deal. With less BBL, the shield can become more of a priority now.

They sure do, Of course they have different funding for the Internationals

Still how would guys Like Welsch, Wade Graham, Dylan Edwards etc enjoy say a 20 round comp with the paycut that goes with it. So those who can play internationals?

It isn't ideal but it goes with wanting the big money. The trade off is less of a pre-season and possibly missing some games for the truly elite in the sport

Don't forget, one of Channel 7's beefs with Cricket Australia was the unavailability of ":big name stars" playing in the BBL. That was partly exacerbated by CA's decison to increase the number of games a couple of years back in it. Now they have agreed to decredse the number of matches for it, without seeing any financial fall away. That is one broadcaster who has started to realised that quality trumps quantity.

Player availability issues will still be there, It will just go to having 1 game each day. Which won't affect 7.

Take NYE, Fox had a game at 3.30pm. That is the nothing timeslots that will go

Interesting. Seems like CA really fked up the negotiations. Almost NRL like under Gallop.

In positive news, the article suggests that ten and nine want all tv rights and may not team with fox. Competitive tension for NRL could be 1. Fox and Seven, 2. Fox and Nine, 3. Nine and Stan 4. Ten and Paramount plus. The stage is yours PVL.

The last deal was negotiated in 2021 in the midst of the continuing COVID crap. To assume one would get a big increase with all the uncertainties around such as the economy , business survival, unemployment, and whether the whole clusterf&ck would get worse, is smoking the funny stuff.

TV stations had no real idea of where this pandemic would take us and them FFS.To get a deal with any sort of increase is a plus ATT .It created certainty of income.

You just let your hatred for V'Landys cloud your thinking. If the 17 team you currently bag(as no extra revenue) was Perth, you'd be creaming .It forms the basis for an 18 team comp for the next deal.

Even that "charismatic" D Gallop stated, to fish where the fish are. ATT they are where the Dolphins play. They've got.
the financial support, the fans and initially an average playing roster.Hell even the Sharks had little financial backing initially.
Sharks still have f**k all financial backing. Their revenue from sponsorship, corporate hospitality, ticketing and membership is at the low end.

V'landys is a dickhead for negotiating the deal in 2021.

Ch10 and Paramount+ probably shouldn't bother bidding for any of the tier one sports. All they will be doing is increasing the amount of money Ch7/9/Foxtel pay. They might as well focus on tier two sports like soccer, basketball, netball and rugby union.

Haha, exactly the reason you wouldnt renogtiate, let alone extend by 5 years, a tv deal!! There was no no need to sign off on anything other than the year ahead. If he hadn’t done his news ltd mates a favour we would have ended up with possible competitive bidding and a shit load more than the $402mill we ended up with.

As you say it drives up the price which hurts its competitors. Good news for us is they may be absolutely desperate now for nrl as the last option. That could push the price up massivEly, if they’re still around for 2028 of course.

shame we didn’t just do a deal until 2024 like afl and now going to market, we could have seen a 50% plus increase on our revenue outcome For 2026!

I just wonder would Ten/ Paramount change tactics for the NRL rights, assuming they bid for it. Instead of going "all in", Ten might want to partner with Fox. The "all in" approach hasn't helped with bidding for AFL and cricket.

Yes, the article has stated that "Nine has the rights to the NRL in a conglomerate deal shared with Foxtel, the preference now is for content to be purchased and run across the linear and streaming wings of the one entity. Ten and Paramount have similar goals"

So hypothetically, if Nine wants to go at it alone, would Ten/Paramount want to do the same?

If I was Ch10/Paramount+ I wouldn't offer a cent to the three codes that have no intention of signing with them.

Paramount plus is a terrible service. So going in for FTA has merit the issue is though Regional service is very poor

There was a time from 2016 to 2021 where Nine was in partnership with Southern Cross and Network Ten with Win TV. Today, it has swapped around to what it was prior to 2016.

The deal was only for 2 years though.

Win was 7 years
