And the AFL is expecting a huge increase LOL good luck. When was the last AFL deal two months ago? No.
The world economy is facing dramatic changes .The Biden administration has the country in 31trillion in debt and wants to continue spending. You think interest rates are going down, remaining steady, when in Oz inflation continues.Businesses are cutting back, major builders are going into administration.Been to a grocery store lately?
The UK has deep financial issues.Russia is stuffed financially.
That was not the only reason Smith got sacked ,try extravagances for a start and not understanding the media set up ins and outs.He had little understanding of the culture, whereas at least Abdo has been in this country long enough prior, to get the message and has a reasonable amount of business tact when it comes to RL.
And you are citing Smith when the economy was not like it is now yeah right.
So if we negotiate a deal this year, we would get a humdinger of a deal according to your logic.TV stations don't want short term deals, neither do sports. Both want some sort of certainty.
Waiting until 2022 FFS, interest rates started too jump in May thereabouts and continued unabated, such that a lot of mortgagees are finding it difficult paying the mortgage mthly. The COVID threat is still around ,if you have been keeping up to speed with the news. Some cruise ships have had problems recently and hospitals continue to receive patients and people are dying.
Guess what if you are battling with repayments ,what suffers luxuries.eg Pay TV in some cases.
Mate I know Perth is the most isolated city on the planet ,but surely news gets there reasonably quick.
As you can tell mate the sullen old Pom is still in full on whinging mode. Nothing changes year on year. Go you mighty sharks!

CA begins new deal in 2024/25, the AFL, 2025. So the NRL has a three year overlap from the other codes.. Could three years change alot in terms of improving services?

My concern is if the NRL goes back once again to Nine/Fox from 2028, the same tired duopoly, then I don't how the game can freshen itself up in terms of coverage.

Nine had the cricket for forty years. Towards the end, the coverage did look dated. While at the same time, Ten had the BBL, and the game looked fresh from there broadcasting. And all of a sudden, the BBL became popular.

From 2028, the NRL needs a something different, modern.
You’re right about nine their coverage got dated ten years ago

harsh on fox I love their coverage most of their calls are good too

the issue with fox is they pay us unders and Rupert owns the company

I doubt we’d get better coverage anywhere else than fox

Funny how you always leave the Telstra part out
Leave it out or include it? The full deal is $643mill, $241mill above our total media rights deal, but digital web value and other telstra in kind is in that for them.
Conservatively I'm suggesting Telstra is $93mill, though I suspect it may be significantly less.
Leaves $550mill for AFL's TV component from Fox/Ch7
Likewise ours includes 1/2 the radio rights value so Fox/Ch9 have paid around $365mill.
$365 v $550. Hmm might have been worth waiting and going to open tender??? I estimate by taking the approach that he did Vlandys has cost the game in excess of $100mill a year.

so no I am not ignoring the Telstra part at all.

And the Marvel wifi Updates that were included in that $643m a year?

There is no breakdown of the NRL's either though, Despite you rambling on like there is

Cricket went to tender and got a very minimal rise, Remembering NRL would go to tender with 16 teams and less NRLW teams

As Gil McLachlan’s number one fanboy he’s only interested in marking down V’landys and marking up his idol!

It is the main reason such comparisons are stupid.

Telstra pays $50m for the website revenue - NRL doesn't have such a deal
They also are getting upgrades for Marvel included and looking at them it looks pretty pricey.

NRL has only said 'just' over $400m cash. What the contra is on top of that no one knows...Yet this fool bangs on like he knows

I'm counting the digital value - around $40million and the wifi at a very generoud $53million. I doubt its anything like that but lets say it is to make the tv gap not look even worse! We know the other TV offers were $5500 plus and $600mill so its unlikely that they would have accepted less than $550 from Fox/Ch7. Even a $350mill gap over the life of the contract that they could have got from Paramount seems excessive.

No reason they had to go to tender with those numbers. Wait a year or two announce 17&18, sell 9 games. The tender process drove the massive AFL deal, not content. NRLW/AFLW is worth nothing in reality.

The total revenue before costs of NRL digital was less than $30mill before it was hidden away. You think Telstra are paying AFL $50mill plus substantial costs to run it??? If they are we should have sold the digital rights back to them!!

Lol, its for 7 years! You honestly believe Telstra are going to spend $301mill on wifi at Marvel???

NRL isnt getting $400mill CASH! Its getting $402mill cash and contra. Around $30mil contra is my estimate (based on last deals $24mil contra + Ch9 $5mill + SkyNZ increase inc contra)
Alas we wont know as Pistol Pete has buried the numbers. Nothing like accountability eh?

I noticed he ignores the extra content too
I've got him on ignore so no idea what inane rambling he is on about again but what extra content are you talking about?
AFL advantages:
More games
Metro reach
4 games on FTA increase FTA value, decrease fox value
more flexibility in FTA games being covered in different states increase FTA value, decrease Fox value

NRL Advantages:
SOO
Internationals
More exclusive games on Fox
Thursday night FTA
No overlap of games
Bigger audiences
Sydney audience (which people keep saying is most valuable in the country)

The value of AFLW/NRLW regardless of number of games is next to zero

Why you feel AFL is worth so much more I really dont know!
Maybe your just trying to justify the unjustifiable?

Once again there is no justification for a difference of $365mill v $550mill in Australian TV rights.
