Selective amnesia

Ive never hidden data that is advantageous to rugby league over the AFL so you can go f**k yourself

maybe it’s in that secret folder with the actual tv ratings for nz lmao

So given no such folder exists, no article exists either. I dont have a folder for any ratings. NZ ratings are on the sheets for 2014 and 2015...then nothing after.

last time I talked about it you said you knew about it and would dig it up

its possible I thought I knew but never found it. I certainly dont have it now.

That is why The AFL haven't gone to the Regional areas, None in the AFL states have the population
Regional Victoria has about 1.5 million but it's not highly concentrated. Geelong is growing rapidly though.

That said all of those areas are effectively serviced by the Melbourne fumble clubs already, just like how NRL fans in regional NSW/QLD support a lot of Sydney/Brisbane NRL clubs. That said Newcastle, Illawarra and North Queensland can support teams of their own. I'd add the Sunshine Coast to that list soon.

I think they are two very different things. WA has 5 times our population, a good comp, a committed government, and loads of money. We have none of those things.

Not really, WA has 4000 juniors. How much resources should go there?

They get more than Tas but the issues are the same, Can't get players without resources but with low numbers is hard to justify

All those States are the same in that regard, Money is better spent going East of Sydney/Brisbane not West or South

Geelong like Newcastle will one day join the capital but they have a side.

GC they have team
Tas is getting one.

Not sure any other regions are viable BUT that is why there is no teams there. Not the lack of people to sell commercials too

We had 10k last time we had a club. That’s what neglect does to a region. There’s only 5,500 in the Cronulla Sutherland region after 50 years of Having a top grade club and a pokie den to pay for jnrs.

That’s very chicken and egg. Tassie has less than 500 rugby players and no league at all. WA has over 4000 league players and a much stronger pool of union players. Investing in a team in WA will make league the number one rugby code there with the subsequent growth in playing numbers. It happened with the reds. I can’t see any reason not to have a team in Perth. I mean apart from misery guts over there.

Rugby League doesn't have an Andrew Forrest though. He will just keep adding to the Pot to up RU funding.

A National comp below the NRL is what will help those sort of areas more then just chucking money at them.

Take AFL and their push into Brisbane, They did a deal and every new school has AFL posts. Very few will actually be used for AFL though. That is the sort of stuff just throwing x amount of in does.

Part of the expansion needs to include pushing the relevant governments to push the sport into schools.

Would something like that help guys like yourself trying to grow the game? From there you can get professional coaches to teach the best of the best. Increasing funding as it grows

I wouldn’t bother down here tbh. Population is too small and too spread out. NRL VIC came down here to discuss starting the game again. Almost gave me a headache thinking about it. It’s not easy. I’m too old and bad tempered to even try anymore. Wore me out last time at the same time I was transitioning away from executive level work. If it ever got going again here it would need a completely fresh approach. What you’ve suggested makes sense but I can’t even be bothered analysing these things much any more. Once bitten mate.

True but union is so on the nose at moment, and nrl is on a growing high that a dual code 16 year old is still likely to choose a pirates pathway over a force pathway. Nothing twiggy can do about that.

most of the good rugby kids in perth are playing union and league and make their choice at 16 or 17. At moment force is a much better option than moving east for sg ball or nsw or qlnd cup for many.

A local pathway addresses that. Sadly since the short sightedness to cut the sg ball side we have numerous examples of this happening. Force will likely have a decent Side in next few years due to the local jnrs that have chosen to join them over following a RL pathway,

Yeah I get that, I just see it as if we are taking talent from the Pacific. Setting the kids in development states for schooling is better but you need a handful of strong schools for that.

That then flows into making the weekend sides stronger

No strong schools down here for league. One strong union school. Juniors are virtually non existent in union although they pretend otherwise . I believe we could achieve all sorts of things down here compared to union if we put the strategies and $s in. We went close to overtaking them back in 2013 but it turned to shit. But the investment is better spent elsewhere. Regional vic shows a lot of promise including Geelong.

What value would the NRL put on getting back WA's participation rate to over 10,000 players (previously achieved in the 90s) thus giving the overall country wide participation rate a 4% boost?

How much would that cost though? As opposed to getting that same target in NZ or developing the existing players in PNG?
