PNG has two tv broadcasters. EMTV is the only commercial broadcaster - owned by Telekom since 2015 - and they generated 6 million in revenue in 2014. The only other TV broadcaster is the state owned NBC so maybe they'll pony up. Either way I wouldnt expect big dollars.

Devices are where it's at these days. Who knows what telco might sign for exclusive rights. A whole nation with phones wanting to watch the footy.

In my mind, there are three outcomes. One - it positively impacts the NRL, Two, it negatively impacts the NRL, or Three, it has a neutral impact on the NRL.

News Corp's plans to sell Foxtel are surprising in that streaming assets Kayo, Binge and Hubbl look likely to go with it. This and recent events in the US show the bind that legacy TV businesses find themselves in.
