How much of the AFL deal will be set aside to 'take over nsw and qld' (essentially throwing away money)?

40% of people vote for who their folks did.
5% vote for the greens because they are Hippies.
3% vote for weird parties because they are weird.
2% swing on newspaper articles because they are part of a shrinking pool of aboriginal booing bogans.

So yeah, we should be worried.

I think you'll find its a lot easier to change people's minds on who to vote for then it will be to turn league supporters into afl supporters

This could be a possibility: expansion. The 2 new teams open up a slot for Fox: 7:30 Saturday night. Fox keeps it's exclusive Super Saturday, 9 gets the other game, us fans will suffer (or will we? it's essentially viewer's choice on two different channels), but Fox will pay decent coin for that I think.

Expansion is a must from this deal as it will give us 24 more games to the marketplace per annum. 18 for 2018. ScrewsCorp still owe the sport another 4 expansion sides:x

Maybe Sunday night? That means all they've lost is one exclusive Saturday game. But have gained 4 simucast.
Give perth every home game as that game (good local time ) so other clubs would only get a home Sunday night game once a year max.

One thing any half smart person could have seen coming, is that the AFL have for the past 10 years or so, seen the rights signing as a big media event and a big marketing push to try to cement their place as the richest code in AU... The reason they stitch all the deals together at the same time, is to trumpet a huge number to the media...

The dumb move by the NRL was to move away from the bundled number announcement.. smith could have done the deal with nine.. signed a confidentiality agreement for 6-9 months, went and talked to fox, telstra etc...

sat them all done together and announced $2b over 5 years, everyone is happy, everyone has forgotten about AFL etc...

The media manager who thought it was a good idea to announce a $900 M deal a week before a $2.5 B competitor deal (no matter how different they are), should be fired

Why give the media the chance to compare bananas with pineapples, it was so obvious it was going to happen...

the money is ok, the scheduling and the media savvy of it is sooooo dumb

They're spending around $50mill a year at the moment so i guess with an extra shed load of cash, a shed load more than $50mill!

NRL spends about $8million on the 5 non RL States.

Cant see AFL stopping, either.....

Perth team 3 , adelaide 3 , sydney north, NZ, Cairns, .. are all a chance over next 30 years...

We cant really control what they do, we just need to be smarter

I wonder if these dipshits on fox realise there basically asking for another super-league to occur.

At which point they'll be out of a job anyway because I'm sure 95% of us would walk away from the game for good if Murdoch got control again.

Sydney North would probably work, with some of the pro-AFL North Shore wankers around. That's why, as I've said a million times, the NRL needs to make a call on the Bears- either bring them in, or kill them off for good and get Manly to work on the North Shore. We need the North Shore and its money stitched up. Union's dying, we can't let AFL fill the void there.

I think you're overreacting. AFL could put 10 new teams into Sydney and still nobody would be interested.

The North Shore's one of their main support bases, you are right and it would more than likely be them just pissing away more money, but a North Sydney team would have more chance of success than others. Ultimately, it's just not a risk the NRL should take, because fixing the situation would be so damn easy. All they have to do is make a call on the Bears and the North Shore will have either the Bears or Sea Eagles as a permanent, constant presence, rather than leaving the North Shore as the awkward RL no-mans-land it currently is.
