That deal is way too good to be true. Locking in a dying format on big cash while still being able to sell your four best timeslots halfway through the deal.

$925 from 9

NZ and International Rights were $100m last time so I would think thats at least 150m and if one of the 2 new teams was from NZ then probably 200 million

Telstra paid 150 million for digital rights last time including stuff like websites, etc and they have the new version of the Tbox (the Riku) plus the online app so you would think 300 million but mayby 200 at worst

So that is at least 925+ 150 + 200 = 1.275 before Foxtel. THat means the last 4 or 5 games (mayby adding back Monday nights for the 5th games). I am ignoring simulcast because it evens out.

So if Fox pay even the 550 they paid last time which they will thats 1.8 without a stretch

I seem to remember Premier Sports in the UK buying rights to the NRL last time as well. Anyone know what that was worth?

Hearing word that the NRL will try and sell 9 games (yes 9) to FOX till 2025 for $2billion (bringing the total to about $3billion). This also gives the NRL 4 games to sell in 2022 to a "Netflix" or FTA network but 3 more years to run on the PTV component.

Total BS.

Was the Fox component for the ALF 1.3 billion? If so we should be commanding the same (or whatever it works out to be for 5 years).

Simulcast, just like the ALF.

With ALF Stewart as head commentator.

Yeah.
The same people got half the country to vote for Abbott.

40% of people vote for who their folks did.
5% vote for the greens because they are Hippies.
3% vote for weird parties because they are weird.
2% swing on newspaper articles because they are part of a shrinking pool of aboriginal booing bogans.

So yeah, we should be worried.

Exactly.

People saying that we're only going to get $1.5 billion. Does anyone seriously think that Fox are only going to pay what they're currently paying? Not only has the game grown, but Fox's dependability on the NRL is at an all time high.

We are going to clean them out and get a total of over $2 billion easy.

We have $925million locked in already.

Fox currently pay $550million (no simulcasting, and only 4 games. Not 8)
Telstra currently pay $150million
NZ currently pay $100million

So even if the 3 unsigned deals only pay the same, that's already $1.725billion.

Does anyone seriously think that Fox won't be paying a substantial increase for a total 9 games, all of them live? (bring the arguments about losing Monday night footy and their exclusive Saturday nights on.)

Fox can still have 'Super Saturday'. The only difference being the third game wouldn't be exclusive. But most league fans would stick to the Fox coverage for that third game.

That works out to be about $1.083billion averaged over a 5 year period. Combined with the 9 deal (yes, 9 will go down but the Fox deal will make up for it) makes just over $2billion. Then add in NZ and digital, etc etc.

Exactly. And they'll have the same thing on Sundays too with there being a Sunday night game and their simulcasting of the 4pm game. They'll have 3 games in a row.
