Point still stands, Roosters 2018 and Sharks 2017 were effectively bought premierships. There's a lesson there for other clubs I suppose.

uh.... Sharks didn't win the comp in 2017.

and no. your point does not stand. every club has a salary cap. every club develops some players through their systems. every club buys discarded players. every club buys players from other clubs. so every premiership is a bought premiership.

lets take a look at the Cowboys 2015 grand final team

Coote (penrith)
Feldt
O'Neill (melbourne)
Linnett (Easts)
Winterstein (brisbane)
Morgan
Thurston (bulldogs)
Scott
Granville (brisbane)
Tamou
Cooper (penrith)
Lowe
Taumalolo
--
Kostjasyn (melbourne)
Asiata
Bolton
Hannant (brisbane)

9/17 were bought by the Cowboys for their premiership
For the Roosters this year, 7/17 were bought (Teddy, Fergo, Keary, Cronk, JWH, SST, Tetevano)
For the Roosters in 2013, 7/17 were bought (Jenko, Maloney, JWH, Moa, SBW, Mortimer, LOD)
the Cowboys premiership was more bought than ours, but you use a dodgy criteria to attack us (and the sharks).

GTFO of here with your logic.

It has no place in this debate.

Every club has to buy crucial players to win a Premiership. The key is to spend that money wisely to compliment your core group of seasoned players that have come through the club.

And to round it out you need a splash of gun youngsters on pre superstar contracts, i.e. RTS in 2013, and Latrell, Manu & Radley in 2018.

We nailed the Premiership winning model this year.

And people need to cease the butthurt and recognise this.

The way the game is now if you’ve bought 75% of your spine you’ve bought the premiership. Nothing wrong with it, don’t be embarrased embrace it, it might be the way all gf’s are won soon. Newcastle buy a decent 6 or 9 they could be the next.

you really have no idea what you are talking about. A team could have bought 13 of its 17 players in a grand final, but if the 4 non-bought are the spine, you'd think it was a fairly won, non-bought premiership. that level of idiocy puts you on par with IBM

besides, the spine idea is overrated. Sheens wins an unexpected premiership with the tigs, talks about the concept of the spine, and then everyone takes it as gospel. but is it? are halfbacks really that important if the Roosters can win a grand final with effectively no halfback? everyone knows if you're team is going nowhere if you don't have a good forward pack, so what good is having a brilliant spine if you have mediocre forwards? so a good forward pack is just as important as a good spine.

But most importantly, defence wins premierships. The Roosters have shown that again this year. And who are the players most responsible for that? keeping with the body theme, I present The White Blood Cells:
Centres are a key cog in the defence. Look at the Roosters this year and see how many times Manu and Mitchell shut down opposition attacking plays. Centres are important for defence, and thus are part of the WBC. Inside them are the second row, and they are equally important. They have to make good defensive reads that put their centres in good position to nullify attacks. the second row are also part of the WBC. Finally, also in the WBC is the team's key tackle maker. This is usually the hooker or the lock, depending on the team. So who are the White Blood Cells for the Roosters? Joey Manu, Latrell Mitchell, Boyd Cordner, Mitchell Aubusson (with Ryan Matterson and Isaac Liu/Vic Radley/Nat Butcher on the bench) and Jake Friend. And what do you notice about them? They are all developed by the Roosters. The most important part of our game is defence, and the most important players to our defence are all 100% non-bought Roosters :)

Here Here

Not to mention JWH played a handful of games for another club, SST played a single game for another club and Tetevano was a discard as were Keary and Fergo.

Look at the 3 sides we played in the finals, each of them had around the same amount, if not more imports than us.

Our recruitment for the premiership side is a good example clever poaching and not throwing wads of supposibly legitimate cash at as many stars possible. Coote, winters and o’neil were already set in place in first grade with o’neil Floating around the emerging qld squad, winters representing the kiwis and Coote having a very ordinary injury run that kept him to city v country status. As for the rest well the dogs favouring sherwin/Anasta combo will forever be folklore for the best signing in nrl history for JT, Granville was getting limited time stuck behind McCullough and needed a full time gig, hannant and Brisbane weren’t getting along and Ben needed a home, linnett was a solid centre but not a star, Rory was never a chance at a full time hooker gig behind cam smith at melbourne and cooper was brought up through the nq system and though solid never really found his groove at gc and Penrith.

With the exception of JT these were put together over a few seasons of squad fillers and blokes that needed more opportunities but none that really shouted we were trying to buy a premiership like the roosters.

Only other best example is the warriors signing RTS and Luke which both being kiwis returning home and doing what the next club was originally intended for hasn’t turned out very well for them.

Spines win you premierships. No Cronk or Tedesco, no premiership. Bought well, well done.

By Dunny Widdler this morning:
In the moments after the Roosters beat the Storm to win the NRL premiership, the players all started a ‘‘Vegas, Vegas’’ chant when the club supremo Nick Politis entered the circle of celebration. The players have got their way – the entire team minus a few of the players who are not old enough to drink in the United States and those leaving the club – are in America on an end-of-season trip.

First stop Los Angeles. They are also going to take in Dallas and then spend time in Las Vegas. Rival clubs are asking about the timing of it with plenty of teams already hard at it in pre-season. You can be sure that with Trent Robinson in charge the Roosters are not cutting any corners.

I imagine this is all legit and under the sombrero?

Is it any surprise that fans are confused over the actions of some clubs and the NRL , ifthe club fly your parents from NZ on Your birthday - that is included in the cap. If you write a book. It's included.

If the millionaire chairman pays for it, nothing to see here, move along. Toddy strikes again, still waiting for the follow up on player managers and the " it's how they do it at the Broncos". Arms length and the Rorters, you still confused?

Yes, in 1999. But as a new club they had to build a roster by buying other clubs players.
