Ive worked in public alot earlier in my work life ... then private alot more recently .... Ive seen good and bad both ways too

While things might generally get done quicker in private, I see alot of dodgy stuff done to get those things done. Could argue either way whether that is good or bad.
Yeah.

People are plop so unless you can get rid of people it still going to be less than perfect.

Jim Chalmers MP
:heavy_check_mark: @JEChalmers

Government minister when asked whether low wages were a “deliberate” design feature of the Liberals’ economic strategy?" “Absolutely not.” When told it was her Finance Minister who said it: “He’s absolutely right.”

I think you're right. I believe that a significant number of politicians (I don't know if that means most) start their career with very good intentions. And then get sucked in to the inevitable chain of compromise that accompanies party membership.

I think it's simpler than that:

They realise that, in order for them to stay in their cushy jobs, they need to be soulless, lying dicks, and so they accommodate that behaviour for their own selfish gains.

Do you seriously believe that every one of them is like that? If so, why do you think that no 'decent' people ever have a go? I don't think it is quite that simple. There have been pollies on either side (Fred Chaney, Michael Lavarch, Petro Georgiou for example) who I would rate as very decent and capable people. Is it a cushy job? Well...I guess it could be if you remain a back-bencher in a safe seat and do the absolute minimum (e.g. the bloke who was my local member on the North Coast for 15 years). But I've met several MPs who work a lot harder and longer than the average Joe.

The News Poll results this morning show the worst result for 50 polls. I think the punters don’t buy the scare campaign of recession if Labor gets in, the circus of Christmas Island and the sudden switch by some MPs as being climate change bandwagoners.

What I find amazing is that if the far right of the LNP let Turnbull run the party without factional backstabbing, he could have countered everything that is attractive to Homer Shorten.

Howard, Abbott and half of SkyNews are crowing that Pell is yet to be found guilty or that it was a witch-hunt.

Now the Nationals are infighting and they are predicting a pre-election spil !

Meanwhile ScoMo and Dutton are flapping their arms about, bowling erratic deliveries to Shorten who is comfortably and calmly cover-driving them to the fence. It looks like Homer will win this in a canter and it is the LNPs stupidity that is making it so easy for him.

How can the party who position themselves as the fiscal mangers be throwing around billions of cash in a desperate attempt to buy an election? The economy is slow, data is showing that there will two rate cuts this year. People are not idiots ScoMo.

I am no fan of Shorten, and will be voting for an independent in my seat. Interesting times ahead

I'd be interested to know if you think you're independent will win and what platform they are running on. IMO the non major party members & certainly the senators have been the biggest bane of proper government since those 3 boneheads became the deciding factor in 2010

Isn't that graph "2 party preferred"? How the f**k do they come up with 6 other from a choice of 2?

My independent is Kerryn Phelps. TBH I like the idea of a non-aligned representative. If labor wins with such a majority as predicted, I concede that her clout on the crossbench will be massively diluted, however I can't vote for Sharma or the labor nuffy.

There's a fine line in non-aligned members being useful, ineffective or a hindrance

I like the Don Chip days when he led the Australian Democrats with his "keeping the bastards honest" mantra.

The cross bench in the ScoMo government were the sensible centre that Australia needed. I would have been quite happy for the status quo to remain for many years under ScoMo and a handful of ladies on the cross bench putting the red pen through Dutton & Co's shenanigans. Much better than One Nation (in the senate) who just vote with the Government because she is too stupid to actually understand the intricacies of legislation drafts.

Kinda sadly I'm in a seat where my vote probably does matter and yet somehow don't have an non-aligned (or even an aligned) candidate worth a damn.

So much so that a couple of elections back, this guy almost won

LOL he was grilled like a snapper fillet. Very rare that reporters actually listen to what they are told and hold merkins to account.
