Sure, there's a government/budgetry saving that would take a very principled government to try and wind back to equalise opportunities (as they should).I actually half agree with you here. I would rather have stronger state based schooling but the horse has bolted and it’s undeniable it’s still saves the government money by funding private/religious schools. Problem is if children go to state schools the majority should be able to determine what is taught, not the minority.
As for majority deciding on curriculum in government schools, teaching the relevant school stuff is what the teachers are trained for (and do). Families should be responsible for passing on any chosen religious beliefs etc, and there's plenty of non-school time for doing that, individually or in group settings (e.g. Sunday school, weekly church attendance etc)
