I dont think anyone has argued that drugs help anyone, my argument is the nanny state issue in telling people how to spend their money, I dont agree with it

also if people get taken off welfare because they fail a drug test, where do they live, on the streets ?

I think the point I would like to make is it's not their money. The government provides for them because they cannot or will not provide for themselves, they don't earn it.

I agree that the government should not interfere with people spending their own money, which they've earned. But that's not the case here.

We'll have to agree to disagree then on this one mate because as far as I'm concerned, if you have made the decision to seek welfare, that support should come at a cost of some personal freedoms.

Which is basically what I said was happening in the EFTPOS card rollout.

Like I said, I don't see the point of drug testing even though I agree with the principle. I just think if the government is giving welfare recipients money because they can't provide for themselves, they should be able to take steps to make sure the money is spent on necessities. Especially when kids are involved.

Well they had the option of selling or trading those things for the necessities that they claimed to need support for.

My sister (many years ago when she just left school) decided that she didn't want to work and was getting the dole and living the dole lifestyle and not contributing to society and getting drunk etc. everyday.

About 18 months in my parents told her to get her act together or they'd kick her out so she got free courses supplied because she was on the dole.

Those courses led to her getting a decent job with Westpac and then she left there to a much better job.

I don't consider her intelligent (in fact I consider her very dumb) and she was one of those people who you would class as unemployable while she was on the dole. But those free courses helped her get a job.......

She may not be very intelligent, but she is a demon in the sack.
