He said that the worst thing in his mind, was not letting the plebiscite go through when first put up. He feels that it would have gone through and his life would not have changed and at the same time, it would not have come under any more pressure. My nephew , strangely enough, doesn't need or want to get married to his partner, they live in a similar de facto situation as a lot of hetero couples, wouldn't be surprised if that was the case for a lot of gay couples.

This is all true. I have heard my sweet little MIL say these things and when my wife translated i was gobsmacked. She explained to me that whilst the words are harsh the intent isn't all that harsh.

My mother (God Bless her) is battling depression whilst caring for my father who has Stage 4 bowel cancer and has months to live. I'm sorry if Gary's post hit a nerve but it did. I think it's fair to say every merkin has something they consider sacred. So do we cater for everybody or nobody?

There's no record of the vast majority of candidates on this subject, so there's no going by voting history, because it has never been voted on.

The current situation is a scam in relation to a conscience vote. As I've stated, Labor only have a conscience vote in this term because they know that they'll never get to use it. If they get power, they will be forced into a binding vote, making the current conscience option a meaningless instance of pure symbolism and cliched virtue signalling. And the Liberals are forced into a binding vote with a stupid postal plebiscite as their mechanism to try and get around it.

The whole thing should be parked if Labor want to deny the Australian people a say. Either have the plebiscite on the next election day or ensure every candidate goes on record with their stance. Hell, just have everyone agree to put an icon on their election day paraphernalia that shows how they will vote - Yes or No.

If this doesn't happen then anything else is pure virtue signalling by both sides and it is meaningless.
