As someone who is sympathetic to Delboy's political views (I will be an old merkin one day) I have to say he lacks credibility as a political commentator.

This.

HJ, Gronk, Baz, Bandwagon and yourself at least have a clue and put forward well considered views from both sides of politics. I enjoy reading what you all have to say.

Delboy though is just a dunce. His comments are so amateur-ish that I actually laugh out loud when reading them.

If I can just jump back to the burqa for a second...

I know that religion is covered in the Constitution. The question is whether religious garb is, or simply the right to hold certain beliefs and not have the state force religion onto people? Wasn't there recently something about whether a sikh could wear a knife somewhere we wouldn't normally allow people to take weapons? If you wanna talk about a security issue, then there's one right there.

How did that sikh thing turn out? Was it through the High Court? Because if it was allowed then there's your precedent right there.

And the number of people it affects is irrelevant. Whether it is 200 or 2,000,000 doesn't matter. It's the Constitution we're talking about, so even having 1 person affected is enough.

Personally, I f**king hate the burqa. It is ridiculously oppressive. But the Constitution is the Constitution, folks.

There was a good program on SBS Viceland last night about France and the banning of the burqa, burkinni and religious headwear in schools.

The French argue that they simply do not want religious statements via clothing. They want their population to be visually French. Nothing else.

Muslim women argue that they are not oppressed and wear their garments by choice.

I concede thst the French were convincing and that their laws did not have racial undertones (unlike the motives of One Nation).

So I am on the fence now. I need to think about it more.

Im not that concerned about it ... but i do see where people are coming from when they say it is a form of oppression.

And i am totally unconvinced by the few people who rock up and say they are not forced - i do not believe that is the majority situation - and even those that dont mind are just brought up that way from day 1 so its effectively brainwashed behaviour - just like all the freaky christian oriented ones in the USA.

I have seen first hand a situation of a woman being coerced into wearing a head scarf ... 8 big dudes rock up to her house to have an intervention, religious figures and family ... dont bullshit about no one being forced

A teacher told me yesterday that under the Safe Schools program they teach kids about anal sex and the use of dildos.

Any teachers here? Is that true?

Total bullshit. My sister in law is vice principal at a high school. Safe schools is anti bullying and teaches tolerance across genders and acceptance of the LGBT kids.

The lies about didlos boys in dresses anal sex is embarrassing.

Not to mention the safe schools program is opt in for the school, and as far as I understand it, they can pick and choose the material they add to their curriculum.

Yes however it must be said that the Safe Schools program is not sex ed and any suggestion that it teaches children about some of the out there topics promoted by the conservatives is crazy.

Miranda Devine said in her Daily Telegraph article "that like a virus, queerness can be transmitted to otherwise straight, cisgender children just by exposing them to its existence. Most damagingly, though, she tells us that the Safe Schools program created an “epidemic” of trans children in the schools it reached.

This is an anti-bullying campaign. It was started bc of the high suicide rate of teenage LGBT kids. Both LGBT and indigenous kids have a shocking stat of you suicide and FMD it needs to be stopped.

The basis of the teaching I am told is "walk a mile in another man's shoes". Imagine being LGBT and the shit you would get. Cop them some slack.
