Yes and in this case we might all go f**k Howard I wish i had my gun now.
Would it be possible to stop the infected merkins from attacking each other though?Something like rabies...?
But no, you're not far wrong. There are organisms that control their host, for example. But there are quite a few diseases that cause inflammation of the brain, which can result in aggression and rage, which in turn causes the victim to bite or otherwise attack people and thus spread the virus.
It would theoretically be easy enough to bio-engineer a virus that turns people into zombies, but it would be a lot more like 28 Days Later than The Walking Dead

Don't listen to him, Hindy. He just wants all the fun for himself.Meh. The virus is the most dangerous thing. It can't keep the host alive, your best bet is to wait it out. Most really virulent diseases kill the host within weeks, so at worst the infected population thins considerably over time
Go all cowboy and go shooting hordes of infected rabid monsters and you're sure to get bit.
Why? Why not encourage it?Would it be possible to stop the infected merkins from attacking each other though?

You want Gary to survive then?He can have his guns.
I'm a flamethrower kinda guy. Or failing that, I'll drop a leviathan on the merkins.
The idea of zombies isn't that far fetched. Imagine a disease that spread rapidly and sends people mad and wanting to attack other people.
Wouldn't make such a good zombie army though. If they go mad and attack indiscriminately they'll just attack each other. There goes your horde of ravenous killers.Probably more important to stop them attacking non-infected merkins, tbh
Then what would be the point of this:Why? Why not encourage it?

Is it an Earth without technology or just an Earth without people? Because the former would be a place where you're constantly hungry, tired and uncomfortable. At least until you picked up an infection and died.Anyone seen the movie The Quiet Earth? What a wonderful place.
Ah. I've only seen a couple of early episodes of TWD. And now I remember 28 Days. I could turn for those eyes. Then what would be the point of this:

No people. Well, a couple. Everyone just disappears and no bodies. Very pleasant. Is it an Earth without technology or just an Earth without people? Because the former would be a place where you're constantly hungry, tired and uncomfortable. At least until you picked up an infection and died.

So get started on the bunker you reckon. Gotcha.Yeah zombie movies are obviously made for dramatic effect...the logistics of infection mean that realistically the most you're likely to get is flashpoint outbreaks as the virus explodes in certain areas. A bit like the ebola outbreaks whenever that happened.
That being said, never underestimate a virus. Something like that with a decent mortality rate and a quick incubation would be a potential extinction event. It just wouldn't go down the way it does in the movies.
