Flanagan is a great player, he would do even better in a better team.

Not hard to be doing better than getting benched by the doggies and then crying about it in front of the media. He is obviously feeling a shit ton of pressure, its a terrible environment for a young play maker, career ruining. Young players need to be instilled with confidence not so worked up and stressed that a question about their fathers advice brings them to tears.

Exactly. Oh I feel for Matt Burton. What a toxic club he will be going to.

I feel for the kid. It'd certainly be tough from a personal perspective and I hope he can find a way through it. But this is now the second club in two years where he's fallen out of favour. Not sure what the problem is but I dont think we're seeing the next iteration of Cleary going through growing pains here.

Jakob Arthur might be another cleary( in terms him being a coaches son who could be a very good 7). Flanno isn’t that, he wasn’t that impressive for the rorters last year so I’m not surprised he’s struggling at the dogs now.

He didn't set the world on fire at the Roosters, but he showed enough that I expected them to persevere and attempt to develop him. As an elite club it's telling that they didn't see his progression being something they wanted to be a part of.

I suspect its something attitudinal. He comes across as a bit of a dickhead on field at times, but it could be as simple as a work ethic/focus thing.

Yeah it could be an attitude problem, but they had Sam Walker coming tbh, that kid looks very good and definitely someone you clear the decks for. Why put more effort into an underwhelming Flanno when you have Sam Walker coming through and Keary there for a while yet...

Yeah that's true. It felt like Walker being this good right now surprised everyone, but that's probably just me projecting my own surprise on the situation. Those close to the club probably at least suspected he'd be able to do this.

It has surprised me also tbh and probably many others but I doubt it surprised Robbo and the other decision makers at the rorts.

Im not convinced on this kid yet, wait till he gets some serious traffic his way in defence, yes he has some great high light reels in attack, but when you got kiks and marto screaming thru you, being all of 73kg, you can't be relying on the forwards around you to do the defence, i don't see him lasting long unless he packs on another 10kg in muscle

Yeah that is an issue for sure but its rteally his only issue, hes got the skills and the vision and the composure in bucket loads, he will have a long career barring a horrific injury toll.

He has shown more than Cleary in his first few games He has hit the ground running better than any half in recent history IMO.

Doesn't mean he can keep up the trajectory he's on. But the kid is an absolute star in the making. He is second in the NRL for try assists after only 6 games. The only player setting up more tries than him at the moment is Tommy Turbo.

Walker obviously isn't as all round developed as Nathan is. But unless he pulls an Ash Taylor and decides to throw his career away at Titans I am confident he will be starring for QLD and Australia in years to come in direct competition with Cleary.

One thing I doubt he ever matches is Nathans kicking game. The sheer variety and accuracy of what he can do with his boot is second to none.

"Nathan will never ever be more than a handy hooker"
