Norman is a far better option than anyone else we could sign.. Keary & Hastings for example.. the guy has genuine heart.. hes carrying a team, he plays whats in front of him.. puts his body on the line in defence too.. actually a lot of the attributes Widdop had pre-injury perhaps.. def hope we can snag him..

As for Parra, perhaps Hayne could playin the halves, but I dont see how they could let Foran AND Norman go..
Agree with all of this. If we can sign him, then he is the best option by far. We have a good record of rehabilitating players who have gone off the rails so maybe a move to Wollongong would be great for him.

Don't see how any of this would help Parra though as they would be back to the old days of Hayne on a squillion dollars with no halves.

The attributes Widdop had pre-Price and McGregor, more like it.

Norman seems prone to self-sabotaging his career so he just might accept our offer.

He would look outstanding in red and white ! I would be a very happy supporter if it happens.

Would be great to get him signed but im not holding my breath. We have been screwed over way too many times before in this department by ratbag player managers who use us to up a players price. Foran is gone now so it makes sense to try and bluff parra for more coin towards Norman. We will see

True Mick, if we miss out on him it's just getting embarrassing for the club, being touted then failing to land the big signing.

If we don't land him then perhaps the club should just bite the bullet and look within, groom promising juniors and take a hit with a fair dinkum rebuilding phase for the next couple of seasons?

The last few years of buying lots of middle of the road or players late in their careers is just not working.

As much I would love results sooner by buying a star player, if we can't land one, then later via promising juniors might be the only choice and perhaps a more satisfying outcome.

Only problem with Norman is that maybe his current problems are going to get worse before they get better. We could be stuck with a Foran type signing.

Norman's obviously a very good player and talent wise would be a good signing but we may be getting him before we know the full extent of what's going on ie. his supposed associations with "undesirables", possible drugs involvement etc. (could care less about his sex tape). We did take Dugan and Packer on, but after they'd already started to turn things around themselves. Be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Quite frankly, these self-righteous attacks on players has become tedious.

If the allegations are true, we are talking about sex and drugs and rock 'n roll. Big deal!

The kid is 25-years-old and talented enough to be a first grade footballer, that makes him a target. Now people are trying to make money out of this, on the basis of their own sense of morality.

Hands up... who has never muck up?

Unfortunately Norman like Mitchell Pearce and Todd Carney has become a media target. Not doing anything many other NRL players past and present haven't done. Some are protected, others are turned into headlines.

If the allegations are true that he shared the video with teammates & friends, then he is silly & has broken an NRL social media rule. This from last year:

The Code will also: - Prohibit the display or transmission of any message that vilifies, intimidates or harasses a person. It also prohibits the display or dissemination of sexually explicit or obscene images.

We wont sign Norman or any elite back for that matter IMO, we just don't have the funds. Big deal, we offered him 800k per season. Don't worry, teams like parra/dogs/roorters will find a way to top that.

We should change our way of thinking. I mentioned it in another thread that we should look to sign someone like Moa. He would come cheap. We should be looking to build a big aggressive pack and complement this with promoting a few young kids in the backline. A few quick kids on the flanks, someone with a decent kicking game at 7. Could just be the right recipe for success and would certainly suit our budget.

We already have a good pack. With the exception of our last start our yardage hasn't been the problem. We are able to get ourselves into good field position, we just don't have the attacking nuance to capitalise on it. We need good playmakers in our spine. We need dangerous outside backs.

I watched a game of the Dragons against the Roosters where Offiah scored 3 tries. We also had Walford, Beattie, Mark Coyne and the very underrated Peter Coyne. The back- line speed and precision was scintillating.
If only our coaches could produce 50% of this fabulous play. Maybe more videos of great Dragons teams should be used to
motivate our teams.

He comes : it'll be for the money and his form will collapse under Mary..

He doesn't : Mary.. And admin are still where they are.

Conclusion: Norman as much as I'd love him to come to the Saints and play his best footy he isn't the answer Iv seen people on this forum say if some of our own players had been coached by proper first grade coaches they would be killing it e.g jack bird if Widdop went back to Melbourne .. Morris boys at the Bulldogs .. I got happy thinking we're chasing Norman but I thought to myself would he rather be coached by Mary for more money or arthur for less ..

I am as interested in potential signings as anyone and don't mind a debate as to how they would or wouldn't fit into the line up.

But to describe missing out any player as "embarrassing" off the back of rumours and un named sources I find amazing. Does everyone really believe all that they see and and read in the press.

Just remember how easy it was for the fabricated Matt Gillett to the Dragons story to gain traction. We get linked to everyone, managers name drop us to build competition for their client and the press feeds off all this. And thats fine and it makes things interesting to me. I would rather hear the 5 rumours were 1 is true than complete silence.

But seriously, unless someone from the club actually makes a statement, ala James Roberts, just take these rumours for what they are. Interesting news clippings that are unlikely to contain any truth

100% - we are the runaway competition leaders for being linked to players. The player managers know that & so do the media. We don't have a strong enough staff or relationship with the media for them to be denied & stopped from occurring.

Yes you would imagine so ,but the way the NRL is being run at the moment , they may very well send him a $ 50 gift card .
