the bid leader bailed ship to the biggest basket case club in the NRL. should tell him something about their chances!

Shane Richardson wasn't the bid leader you dope.

The Brisbane Tigers NRL Bid Chairman is Shane Edwards.

This is from May 2023 when the Tigers announced their intent to bid at Langlands Park:

Brisbane Tigers NRL Bid Chairman Shane Edwards said the bid was backed by a strong balance sheet, assets and financial forecast, comparable with the Brisbane Broncos and Dolphins.

I see your little lapdog Butthurtski bought into your crap.

Journalists have been talling non-stop about North Sydney Bears for 24 years. They've talker up the Jets, too.

The reason they do it isn't because the Bears and Jets are favourites to get two of the next three licences. They do it to sell papers in Sydney.

Dolphins were rarely mentioned by the press in the lead up to their inclusion. Most of the attention was hogged by the Brisbane Tigers and Brisbane Jets.

I’m not sure that you have a Foxtel subscription if you think that is the truth. They were pretty likely to get it about six months before they were announced and News were always saying they were the favourite.

Also, I’m not just quoting journalist think pieces have a look at those articles you posted about a third Brisbane side. Have they been in the last 6-9 months? The amount of press they are getting in the last 6months (including from V’Landys himself) isn’t as much as PNG or Perth, heck even NZ is starting to get some action

Now that could definitely change but I’d be more confident about a PNG, Perth or a second NZ side happening before a third Brisbane side.

thatd be the top 3 best options for long term viable expansion of the NRL.
Yep - the Pirates & Kea bid brands that have emerged are solid, and could only need small tweaks to be spot-on

Basically the team colours for the Pirates *may* need reconsideration now the Dolphins have red-gold-white (and especially a red-black-gold alternate kit). Perhaps a brighter gold/Yellow?

For the Kea bid, I'd step back from the explicit South Island branding & use The Kea or Aotearoa Kea as a name, and add a Wellington game each year into the home game mix - make the lower North Island a "battleground territory" between the Warriors & Kea, as South Island only limits their appeal to a fraction of NZ, and a 3rd NZ team is a pretty distant prospect, so why not try to claim some of the lower North Island?

The only bid that's spoken about constantly is PNG.

Oh really?

Then how do you explain this, you dumb bastard?

The Brisbane Tigers' NRL bid has received a huge boost with newly minted Queensland Rugby League CEO Ben Ikin declaring his organisation is behind their quest to become the competition's 18th team.
"We've had the Gold Coast Titans and the Dolphins. Queensland seems to be the place to expand the game," Ikin said.
"The Brisbane Tigers, formerly the Easts Tigers, have a long history in this jurisdiction. The QRL are right behind their bid to be the 18th franchise."

You do realise that the QRL has a vote at ARLC meetings, right?

The NRLWA doesn't.

If you think the QRL doesn't count, then how do you explain this, soapdodger?

For Fordham, making the most of this momentum looks like bringing more games to the region – and potentially another team.
Fordham: “We’re really committed to working with the NRL in growing the competition, and Queensland is a big part of that. We think there’s room for another team here in Queensland, and the Dolphins have been the perfect example.
“The more games we can get played featuring Queensland teams in Southeast Queensland, the better. The engagement in rugby league here is just next level, and the energy of the crowds has a material impact on the quality of the broadcasts that we make. It helps create atmosphere, it makes the commentary team rise, it makes the production team rise.”

Simon Fordham is the Head of Strategy, WWOS. He spoke for the entire Ch9 network. He wants another team in Brisbane. He never said Ch9 needs or wants a team in Perth.

You've just been owned. Deal with it, soapdodger.
Ikin has no influence at all, just like the previous qrl ceo who said there shouldn’t be another brisbane club the dolphins were admitted

ch9 paid nothing for dolphins, nrl won’t give a sht what they think.

therell be no Brisbane 3, deal with it and walk away like you said you would

Blah blah blah. Try harder.

Every time the broadcast rights are up for tender there's a rift between the broadcasters and the ARLC Chairman/CEO unless the latter fall in line. The clubs panic and sack the Chairman/CEO when the broadcasters threaten to walk away. Nothing will change.

For years you've said V'landys sucks up to the media and gives them cut price deals in exchange for fluff pieces and to keep his job.

What makes you think he'll do anything different this time, soapdodger?

Merkin.

Richardson, who’s in charge of the Firehawks’ expansion push

The Firehawks, headed by veteran rugby league administrator Shane Richardson

A turf war has erupted in Brisbane after Firehawks bid chief Shane Richardson accused the Dolphins

Those "sources" were wrong. The Brisbane Tigers' website listed Shane Edwards as their NRL BID CHAIRMAN when they launched their bid in May 2023.

lol, of course they were, and the many others I didnt bother quoting?
he may be chairman but the 'leader' was quite clearly Richardson. Tell me how many articles have quotes from Edwards compared to Richardson? I doubt anyone knows who Edwards is, Richardson was the one fronting the media about the bid. He clearly realized the writing was on the wall and the bid was going nowhere and jumped ship. Maybe he'll go back in 15 years when they may look at Brisbane3, if hes still alive?

How do you explain Shane Richardson not launching the NRL bid at the official opening of Langlands Park in May 2023?

It was a big occasion featuring club great Des Morris, Brisbane Tigers CEO Brian Torpy, Queensland Tourism and Sport Minister and Brisbane Tigers NRL Bid Chairman Shane Edwards. Peter Psaltis was there to endorse the bid, too. I don't recall Shane Richardson saying anything. Shane Edwards and Brian Torpy fronted the media for questions about the bid.

Here's the press release.

The Brisbane Tigers Rugby League Football Club today announced its intentions to bid for the 18th NRL licence at the opening of their new $10 million Totally Workwear Stadium, the redeveloped home den of the Suzuki Brisbane Tigers at Langlands Park.

The high performance and community centre was opened by Tourism and Sport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe and rugby league great Des Morris OAM, who opened his namesake grandstand.

The Brisbane Tigers thanked the Queensland Government for contributing $1.1 million to the Totally Workwear Stadium redevelopment project.

Suzuki Brisbane Tigers CEO Brian Torpy said the new facilities were the perfect foundation for the Club’s bold and innovative bid to become the NRL’s next franchise and fifth Queensland team.

“The change rooms and gymnasium are female-participant compliant and will encourage more women to play rugby league, providing more inclusive pathways to our BMD Premiership team,” Mr Torpy said.

“NRLW also will play at least three games at Totally Workwear Stadium during the 2023 season, including the Round 4 double-header featuring the Broncos, Eels, Cowboys and Wests Tigers.

“Langlands Park has been our home for more than 70 years and will be one of Australia’s best boutique, gender-inclusive rugby league stadiums available to our community.

“Totally Workwear Stadium is regularly used by NRL teams for training when playing in Brisbane, such as the recent Magic Round, as well as Queensland Maroons and Australian Kangaroos, and will now provide an even better facility for Queensland rugby league matches.

“Our NRL bid will leverage our great club’s 90-year-old history of legendary players and coaches, premierships and Queensland spirit to become the go-to team of Queensland’s fastest growing region.”

Brisbane Tigers NRL Bid Chairman Shane Edwards said the bid was backed by a strong balance sheet, assets and financial forecast, comparable with the Brisbane Broncos and Dolphins.

“South-east Queensland fans are craving more high-quality rugby league, with our four existing Queensland based teams still leaving our fans wanting more,” Mr Edwards said.

“Suncorp Stadium has the capacity to support another NRL team. This year’s 27 rounds of the regular season will see nine weekends where no game is played at Lang Park.

“With the strong attendance and audience figures we are seeing the Dolphins achieve in their debut year, we believe the Brisbane Tigers can provide a similar stimulus in the south-west corridor that takes in the Logan and Ipswich regions.

“We will build upon our programs that already empower Queensland grassroots footy clubs and thousands of local players to dream big, and offer unique fan experiences with the game we love.

“If successful in becoming the 18th NRL team, our goal is to be the go-to club for sports fans on Brisbane’s southside and western corridor and the millions of casual fans between the ages of 18 to 34 who do not currently support the Broncos, Dolphins or Titans.

“We are excited that this bid will give us an opportunity to further strengthen our community programs such as RISING, which facilitates outreach through rugby league and improves outcomes for students from historically low socio-economic and marginalised backgrounds in schools across the south of Brisbane.”

The Suzuki Brisbane Tigers are based out of the $10 million community centre of excellence at Langlands Park, with Stage 1 construction on Totally Workwear Stadium now complete.

Stage 1 facilities include new gender-inclusive change rooms, a boardroom, corporate suites and boxes, media room, medical room and meeting rooms that are available for use by Suzuki Brisbane Tigers sponsors, partners and community groups.

Stage 2 will begin later this year and provide additional seating and involves the relocation of heritage buildings, such as the original 1933 grandstand.

Stage 3, planned for 2024, adds more seating, commercial gymnasium and accommodation for our rehabilitation facilities.

A recorded live-stream of the Brisbane Tigers’ NRL bid announcement and opening of Totally Workwear Stadium is now available on Tigertv.net here.

According to you, Richardson was the "leader" of the bid until November 2023.

If that were true then wouldn't he have been at the opening of Langlands Park to launch the bid?

He’d probably already realised by then He was backing a sinking ship. I wouldn’t want my name linked to a no hope either.

Only 6% of club chairmen want to see another seq team, your goose is cooked!
Even though V'Landys could always convince the commission to just go against that ("To hell with the club sentiment, we're expanding to SEQ!"), with that kind of opinion AGAINST SEQ expansion it'd just be buying a fight with the clubs.

And we all know what happens when the clubs don't like administrators' decisions, don't we?

Plenty didn't want the Dolphins, either.

If PNG gets in it will be despite the CEOs not wanting them to have a licence.
