Well when you take the former AUSTAR customers who were all subscribed via satellite, except Darwin I believe, they cannot be counted at all, its all one way, they had no way of receiving data from a subscribers box. I was told years ago it's just subscribers to package * %, in a grand final because it should/would 'rate' higher the % used is higher. No different to free to air ratings.
whoever told you that was feeding you bullshit http://www.oztam.com.au/TheRatingsProcess.aspx

And... that was the last game 9 dictated the draw and KO times (or so we're told).

Bring on the new schedule for 2018

Townsville, Brisbane power outages ruin NRL Grand Final

The Courier-MailOctober 1, 20177:51pm

With their team making the decider following a Cinderella story run through the finals, Ergon Energy said there was an “unplanned” outage in the Townsville suburbs of Castle Hill, Northward, Idalia and Belgian Gardens.

While they are still working to identify the fault in the system, Ergon said about 1200 customers were affected.

Fans took to Facebook, making their feelings known.

“ This is disgraceful! We are missing our home teams grand final. When should we expect power?” one Cowboys fan wrote.

“WOW! One of THE biggest nights of the year for most Townsvillians and a couple of suburbs lose their power at the worst possible time!” another said.

More than 2000 Brisbane homes also lost power as the NRL grand final was getting underway.

Hundreds of Energex customers in Banyo, Burbank, Nudgee and Rochedale are without power as the North Queensland Cowboys and Melbourne Storm do battle.

A rogue animal is believed to have caused the large power outage in Brisbane’s north as 2000 households were left in the dark.

At 7.50pm, an Energex spokesman said a “bundled cable overload” was to blame for the outage in areas around Banyo and Nudgee.

It is understood Energex has since returned power to over 1000 households.

Energex believe the rest of the damaged cable will be replaced by 9.30pm, restoring power to any remaining households.

Meanwhile, a light drizzle in Brisbane has not dampened the spirits of Cowboy supporters tonight as hundreds pour into the Caxton Hotel.

Decked in blue and yellow, footy tragics are shoulder to shoulder, shouting and whistling support for the North Queensland Cowboys as they wait for kick off.

Melbourne Storm supporters are pressed along the sides in a show of silent confidence but are clearly outnumbered.

Cowboy supporter Graeme Findlay said it doesn’t matter how big the margin is.

“As long as the Cowboys are in front at the end, it doesn’t matter what the score is,” he said.

Two years in a row the other codes' daytime grandfinal has outrated the nightime NRL grandfinal at 7.35pm. This time no Sydney team in the other codes gf. The NRL had no Sydney team which had the states of Victoria and Queensland to the fore. However 475000 more metropolitan viewers than the NRL gf is not a good figure comparatively speaking for the NRL. Wonder what the figures are for the regionals? Hope its better.

Sydney ratings are disappointing, fair bit lower than the previous 2 out of state GFs. One sidedness of this game probably hurt.

Lol. El Diablo! I'm incensed! I tried not to mention the 'training run ' with u in mind. The figures dont lie or maybe they do but thats what Oztam is stating. Im not happy either. However this must be a warning that things are going pear shaped within the NRL as far as development, marketing and the lack of additional progressive expansion. The training run is perpetuating its myth very well and is obviously making progress on the tv side of things and I suggest the junior development area as well. This should be a wake up call for the NRL. Not seen as an insult or pushing the barrow of a much lesser code.

I think interest will rebound in Sydney once this era of Storm ball comes to an end. Sydney turns out for entertaining sport which Storm ball has not been able to provide over the last decade.

Who believes TV ratings anyway. Those regional figures for NSW/QLD for the AFL are crap & are just guesstimates to satisfy TV execs etc. Be surprised if there were even half those numbers. The AFL & its powerful friends have an image to uphold.

Wish you were right but that's what these myth pushers will be trumpeting. Unfortunately this is what they will refer to and this is all part of the posivity that the 'training run' will use to keep its 'momentum ' going. I note that sadly contributors are using the denial tact to cope with these poor figures. I suggest genuine fans get off the lazy stick , admit their are real issues and proactively remedy them. Mind you the NRL should have been already aware of such underlying issues and maybe putting on a poker face for PR purposes. Rugby league has dropped the ball and needs to pick it up again and revitalizing junior interest is a major path to do this.

The playfield for ratings is much different than it has ever been.It used to be only the free to air channels that were the only source of entertainment on GF day.Now you have the various other FTA channels,NETFLIX,Stan, computer gaming. When there are other options to watch rather than two out of Dydney teams, the ratings were always going to fail. The NRL need to look at this situation and appease the veiwers somehow.
