At 14 they could start hitting the weights and actually do the hard work. That would be a better approach than blaming the superior poly athletes for being too good.
Rugby League is hard. It’s never easy and won’t get easier when you become an adult. It just gets harder.
The hard factor is what makes it worthwhile. Parents don’t like to hear that though. They’d rather their kid be handed a prize for being mediocre.
There is no shame in not being up to it. Most people aren’t.
The way you are going on, it’s like you expect every single kid to be training and wanting to be an NRL player. This is simply not the case. Some kids have talent, some just want to play with their mates and this goes for any age group.
The players and supporters you want to hang on to are those that don’t have the elite talent and skills. That don’t have the physical attributes. Make the game accessible to all, which then causes them to encourage their kids and so on and so forth.
Do you really believe that a kid who gets belted by a big poly fella for a season is going to be a life long supporter of the game? Is he or she going to encourage their kids??
Junior sport isn’t about elite athletes it’s about participation and enjoyment. The ones who want to go to the gym and want to win everything will. They find a way because it’s in their nature and make up.
