OzTam results prove the AFL is number 1 in the TV ratings battle. Here's a question for you, why did the AFL TV rights go for $500 million whilst the NRL went for $360 million?

The media up here really have no interest in it, and obviously neither do the broadcasters channel 9.

Actually Reggie I don't mind watching AFL now and then, was devastated when St. Kilda got knocked out of the finals. If I had known international rules was on, then I would have watched it and not attacked it. But the fact remains I have not seen any advertising, read any news stories until this James Hird one, and it has more or less been off the radar.

I suppose if I had taken a bigger interest in the international game of AFL I might have known. But the fact remains that, in Sydney at least, it is passing by largely unnoticed by the majority of the population, much like the Tri-Nations are in Melbourne I'm sure.

But you take the TV ratings for the two sports over the season, and the rugby league has been the clear winner. Say what you want about where the teams are based, TV ratings matter more than anything these days. On that level, the NRL doesn't have anything to worry about.

The OzTam ratings are controversial at best. I prefer AC Nielsen, the "real" ratings

And just for you Reggie, channel 9 news have been plugging the Tri-Nations match all week in their sports report. Whether people could be bothered to wake up at 5am and watch it will be another matter though, particularly those who have Foxtel as it will be shown at a more civilised time.

I guess that'd be the same for international rules, would it not?

A sport doesn’t have to be national to be successful.

As for expansion, I’ll say again – it’s not on the cards – its not part of the SuperLeague vision, the News half of the NRL have made that patently clear. Contract to expand.

Having said that the lack of expansion isn’t the end all and be all.

There are 3 major codes in Australia, and they are Rugby League, Rugby Union and AFL... the only reason AFL has any ground on Rugby is because there are two codes of it! And then there's international union......

My poor little man, let me tell you firstly that the NRL receives $66 million per year on the foxtel rights- this my little Reggie equals $462 million over 7 years -the length of the contract.

In addition this their channel nine FTA rights equals to $105 million over 7 years ( 15 million per year)-Channel 9 being the most watched NSW and Qld station by far - thats why the "VFL" NEEDS BOTH CHANNEL 7 AND 10!

And my little boy Reggie, 2Gb radio station has paid 3 million annually for radio rights!

The Foxtel renewal rights along with channel 9 FTA rights are now up and the consesus is a substantial upgrade from 9 while the ARU WILL RECEIVE LESS ON THEIR NEW CONTRACT, THE NRL IS LOOKING AT AN UPGRADE ON TOP OF THEIR HIGHER CHANNEL 9 INCREASE -
