NRL faces major turmoil as clubs threaten breakaway league

The Nrl need a media department like Russia or China. Maybe then the clubs might make decisions that are best for the code and not themselves.

Down the track when further clubs are brought in. What happens to the votes system then? 18 clubs plus qrl, nswrl and 8 commissioners (2 of which are club sponsored). How could anyone think that would be independent.

Crazy thing is it didn't need to get to this, I'm sure of the nrl in December had offered them $10.5mill on a $9mill cap plus a discretionary $1mill a year to be spent on fan engagement, building crowds etc they would have been happy. Grant/Greenburg has shot himself and the game in his foot

Ahhh what? Yes it didn't need to get to this. But clubs absolutely wouldn't NOT of agreed to that, otherwise they would of. Plain as day. it was always dependent on what the cap is. Hence why a percentage. The cap was the unknown. What happens if the cap ended up being 10mil and the clubs agreed to 10.5mil as you say?

The tv deal and MOU wasn't struck till late 2015 and decisions on spending hadn't been decided. Stats show that grassroots is suffereing and clubs have been largely in control of that. Nrl are taking control and want to spend the money better. And fair enough. Clubs are useless with money. 108 yrs and still broke.

Why cant the players just ignore all the money coming into the game so the administrators can continue to make bank?

I note the digital thing has gone quiet the last couple of weeks...

Has Grant ever done anything wrong during his 5 yr tenure according to you?

How are we going on all the KPI's that the NRL announced in 2012 around crowds, grassroots etc?

Why is the NRL agreeing to stupid TV slots like Friday 6pm?

Why is NRL admin spending going through the roof?

How about NRL expansion plans for the premier comp ( 2028 maybe)?

But.. but.. the evil Clubs and their media mates are too blame!!!

Unfortunately you might be out of a job soon mate...

What stats re grass roots? Not the nrl disseminated ones that show growth at grass roots every year?

Exactly, they should have started with the salary cap and rlpa negotiations then gone to the clubs. They have done it arse end around just to create a feel good story last December.

It is great the meeting is finally over.

The gourmet sandwiches and sparkling water was running out. Apparently Nick stuffed some of the free leftovers in his pockets before departing.

12 month farewell tour coming up...

It's only another year of nothing ahead but Grant gets to hand over a few more trophies...

We'll all do this again Dec 17..

Grant's job is safe for now according to initial reports from NRL HQ.

It is not yet known if he agreed to re-instate his initial offer to fund clubs 130 per cent of the salary cap as previously agreed.

The clubs considered a revised offer put to them by the NRL in an attempt to save Grant's head on Tuesday.

After a meeting of the ARLC on the weekend, the NRL on Monday put forward a revised offer to the clubs in an attempt to come to a resolution.

It's believed the NRL matched the 130 per cent agreement struck late last year however that was dependent on how much the salary cap rises by under the new collective bargaining agreement.

The NRL doesn't want to risk blowing their budget should the salary cap rise by too much while they are not willing to commit to giving the clubs two chairs on the commission.

AOC president John Coates is conducting a review into constitutional reform of the ARLC and the NRL is not willing to commit to any change until it is complete.

I know this is unrelated to this thread, but what are these new threads on the board with Korean Text? I don't dare click on them.

OK what's the outcome?
Grant stays, 130% available to clubs after the Syrian and Iraqi conflicts are sorted out, the I.C becomes the Dependent commission, and Slothfield is given more access to scoops.

A few weeks of bad publicity for the game, and we're back to square one?
