And I'm looking forward to a big fat man in a red suit bringing me some presents next week lol.
245k supporters of which 90% of them dont buy a membership, dont attend games, dont watch on tv and dont buy merchandise. How exactly do the 220k fans who dont actually do anything define themselves as supporters? If you had 245k supporters you wouldn't be losing money!

When you get 15,800 ,members as last season, have a $700m plus development, Leagues club next to your own ground, with further development approved, and 51 years history ,get back to me.
I note with interest you ignored the other clubs mentioned for 2018,according to Roy Morgan with less support,a couple of clubs in heartland areas.
Then a bit of friendly advice, stop bringing up Roy Morgan as a source ,to try and underpin your argument if you think it''s flawed LOL.
Other clubs lose money with more supporters and rely on poker machine monies to fill the gap.

Ive never brought up Roy Morgan lol. The nonsense they put out around this makes zero sense and they dont share their methodology for coming up with these mythical figures, for any club.
Looking at real world supporter engagement opportunities like memberships, attendances, tv audiences. merch sales etc Id be surprised if there are many, if any, clubs with over 100k real supporters, by that I mean not some bloke in the street who you ask which club he goes for and he spouts out a name despite never having had any connection or commitment to it.

Another multi million $ loss on top of last years and the $6million in debt you are carrying from previous to that. Better hope that development starts paying up soon!

LOL Yet your post today at 1.11pm quite clearly cites The Roar quoting Roy Morgan, and supporters for 2017.No need to show it ,as it does not support your argument, hence dumb to cite it.
Leave it out, simples.
I responded to show that example is old hat anyway.

Yeah the real world in Perth ATM is like the rest of Australia ,falling house prices, and hypotheticals about what Perth may or may not bring to the table.A possible new Govt that will hit the big end of town, and negative gearing, will be cut and all of these companies will come out of their hideouts to sponsor.
You in WA have an economy that thrives on the resource industry, if China/India and Asia sneeze, then who feeds the baby?

I remember a similar story for the Gold Coast with Searle who I lauded as some sort of visionary.
The very reason Beattie has asked Greenfig to spend the next 12 months researching all aspects of what expansion will do, and how it should be done.

Are you that dumb not to understand ,money is coming in and loans/debt is being repaid.,And this will accelerate next year.If you bother to look at the pace of development of apartments on the final stage ,at the rear of the ET Stand you may have some idea.
Then another 200 units to be built on top of retail.

Already the Licensed club has had decent monies spent on the bistro and the new Chines restaurant replacing the King Wan.Keep smoking it champ. And the football club has retrenched people to cut back on costs. You obviously are oblivious to multi million dollar losses by other clubs, that rely on poker machines to fill the gap.

You can paint as bleak a picture as you wish, but the development is miles away from its finality.

Just out of interest, are there many vacant new units in the Sutherland shire?
In Brisbane new units are taking longer to sell than say, 12 months ago, they’re still selling but not at the rate they did.

You don’t think the nrl should expand because of what the resource market may or may not do? Lol

You said the same last year, and yet if rumours are to believed and despite a massive hike in the nrl grant, your club is alleged to have lost twice as much this year as last year! What will you do next year when you’ve got no one left to make redundant?

We expand when it's responsible, viable and has a long term commitment to do so. I've seen too many rushed expansions, that are either duds or cost a code a lot of money. That may well be the case for 2023.

I stated the same last year, and I repeat it, more so this year, because the current stage being constructed ,is the one where all units have a club profit share involvement. The first 300 plus of the earlier stages simply did not. That's about half the residential total on the western side.

You are not here ,to see what is currently under construction. In fact I know at least two couples who have purchased in this new stage, they are fully committed.

The Sharks have lived on rumours for decades. They are/will be in a position to repay debts, and reduce losses .Else their Bankers would be knocking on their door forthwith.

I've heard rumours you dislike Sydney clubs, now that can't be true LOL.

Your commentary has been redundant for years, as you trot out the same old acidic bile. It's like reading War and Peace ,every year.

You dismiss longstanding club rivalries as 'not stacking up'?!Pleeease. These longstanding and universally well known clubs are massive assets of the NRL. They give it credibility not to mention it's popularity. Without them the Broncos and others would not be anywhere near as popular. The Sydney clubs and Sydney itself is vital for the NRL going forward. The AFL understand but won't let on. And I suspect the NRL have looked at the negative impacts from lost clubs like the Bears and now are reticent to slash and burn. (Richos Platinum plan)Instead growth with additional clubs will be in vogue. And that's the way it should have been 20 years ago.

Some Sydney clubs - not all.

Also, without Melbourne, for example, Telstra have said that they wouldn't sponsor the NRL as it would not have a national enough footprint. You look at all of the benefits to the NRL from a Sydney club perspective. I am looking at it from a balance perspective. The BIG Sydney clubs are hugely important to the game, they provide tradition, rivalry and a rich history and they give us a foothold in the country's biggest market, which is a massive asset to the game. Let's get them decent stadia to play out of and watch them thrive. The big city expansion clubs provide opportunity for national and multi-national sponsorship, increased TV revenue, increased and widened fan-base and drive growth in the game just as much.

You can't have an NRL without the Broncos, Storm, Raiders and Warriors just like you can't have an NRL without powerful, traditional Sydney clubs. What we don't need is small, poorly managed, poorly supported clubs with sub-standard stadia in the NRL if they have proven that they are not up to NRL standard once they have been given a fair go with the new funding model and an opportunity to play at the new stadia. If they still fail at that point, then they are not an NRL club.

Your interpretation of small is open to debate. Some clubs may appear small but have widespread support for a number of reasons.

If that support doesn't commit to their club through membership / attending games and merchandise then it does nothing for the club so yes, I'm only talking about clubs with supporters that actually do something for the club. And there are some obvious clubs that are small in NRL terms in membership, average attendance, TV ratings and stadium quality. Anything else is not a real metric.

But these clubs have at least 250k fans, Roy Morgan says so!

At the moment you'd have to say Manly and to a lessor degree Sharks remain faves to get into dire financial strife and have to go cap in hand to the other clubs. Will be really interesting to see what their response will be! There isnt actually huge sums in the sinking fund, certainly not in the immediacy.
Id rather see them drop into NSW cup and a license be made available to an expansion area than relocation though.

Or let them exist and sustain a very big supporter base than meets the eye. These clubs are well known everywhere. You demote them you lose further fans ! Simple as that. I've got a number of Manly Warringah supporter mates. Guess what!: Manly go! They go!

How loyal are these supporters if that is enough to turn them away? Do they know their team will still play at Brooky every fortnight in the NSW Cup? Do they know that their team's NSW Cup games will still most likely be televised on either Fox League or 9 ?

Why not try and boost the second teir? They are a very, very good standard of RL and if you start to get traditional old rivals playing at traditional old grounds it could be a point of difference for the league. Manly, Norths, Newtown, Western Suburbs Magpies, Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs, St George Illawarra Dragons, Newcastle Knights and Penrith Panthers all feature. This level is appropriate to host fixtures at Brooky, North Sydney Oval, Belmore, Leichardt etc. Sounds like your dream league Stallion.

A decent second tier drawing 5-7k, televised, played at local grounds and with a football expenditure of around $5-8mill would bring a lot more strength to RL than some clubs bumbling along in the NRL going from one crisis to another. I keep hearing rave reviews of Newtown Jets game day experience and how they are packing out their local ground.

You should tell your Manly mates to get to Brooky, 8500 avg isnt going to sustain them very long!

Wheres your evidence, except the BS Roy Morgan report, of this massive fanbase of all clubs. It is way overstated when you take into account the actual measurables we do have ie members, attendances, merch sales and tv audiences.

Because it is 2nd tier necessarily is that clubs death knell . You seriously reckon fans whom.have supported a club in the most attended and viewed top flight rugby league competition on Earth would settle for 2nd rate status!? It just doesn't pass the pub test!

Newtown is a well.marketed local club. Very different set up. The decline of rugby league is happening in northern Sydney as some of us plot the demise of more clubs in Sydney! Nowadays Manly hasnt got a genuine lical derby rival which gives that extra bit of relevance to the area at large. This has gone due to ridding the league of the North Sydney Bears. Oh dear ! Yet the dummies are asking for more blood letting and dilution of this great code in Sydney!? Incredibly dumb stuff!

If the 2nd tier is a clubs death knell, how have NSB, Newtown et al survived there to date, long after their clubs were made defunct at the top level? :joy:

Talking top.flight champ. As a fan I would not be following the Roosters if they were shafted to 2nd division. Fans seek and want relevance in the top flight. If that isn't there the code loses most of them. It's quite logical but doesn't seem to have merit status on this forum.

I can see a local rivalry in the NSW cup between Manly, Bears and Newtown being just the think to create a buzz and legitimacy. Manly only got 8500 avg this year in a run down suburban ground not fit for NRL status, they are pretty much operating like a NSW cup team as it is!

if Newtown can do it there is no reason why some clubs dropping out of the NRL cant also thrive at a more grassroots level.

Then you really arent much of a fan. I supported my team as it got relegated not once but twice into a third division comp. Tough days but made promotion all the sweeter! Never missed a game even playing the likes of Barrow and Runcorn! Many of my clubs fans actually preferred the experience of playing in the championship over Superleague.

Lol.So losing 100,000s fans doesn't bother you!? As that will happen when a top.flight club leaves the big league. It's as simple as that but some still dish up fanciful scenarios that not only diminish rugby-league's relevance, it reduces it's net popularity in a very high profIle and unique top flight competition! Deary me the dummies are out again!
