NRL Rd 10 2025 - General Non-Warriors Thread

With Magic Round done we're quickly back into the relentless grind of week in, week out, NRL footy. It's what separates the tough from the not so tough and we might see a few teams sprint ahead of the pack from here on in.

Thursday, Eels v Dolphins. Parra have been playing OK. On that note their season doesn't have to be a disaster many were predicting. Their big, home crowd are still engaged and Redcliffe are a long way from home.

Friday, gee, it's struggle street. Newcastle hosting Gold Coast. Who was saying the Knights' coach would be the first to go this season? Last week he had them humming and it's Dessie who's suddenly needing a win!

Souths looked poor during Magic but so did Brisbane. These are two big clubs, with two big coaches, that expect better things. It's the perfect match-up!

Saturday, another perfect match-up, Canberra v Canterbury. Magic was good for them but it's suddenly back to reality for both, a cold afternoon at Canberra Stadium. This is the aforementioned grind we know so well.

The Dragons (Illawarra) were the Warriors first opponent on Australian soil in 1995 and it was also our first hiding. We were warned about the grind, after the glitz of our inaugural game had wore of. We weren't up to it then. Let's hope things have changed. But the glitzy occasion last week and then a trip to Wollongong, is uncanny.

Townsville will be rocking with the defending Premiers in town. The Cowboys came up short in a game they should've won last week, whilst Penrith think it's still on for a five-in-a-row after showing some familiar good form.

Sunday, Melbourne have an extra-livid coach after the defeat to Canberra. The Storm tend to fix things quickly once they're home but this season? It's unpredictable. Wests could win. We close with Manly (remember them?) hosting Cronulla, it's the eight at stake, so get off the surfboards and play some ball.

Enjoy.

Alright, if you want to make a bit of coin, tip against these winners as I'm going to pick them this week. And I am well below 50% this season.

Eels, Titans, Broncos, Raiders (geez that's a game not to miss v the Dogs), Dragons (I have been tipping against us to great success), Cowboys, Storm, Sharks. I hope I get all of them wrong, apart from the Broncos.

I'm so exasperated with my form that I just went with all the home sides, bar the Warriors of course. I mean, I did put some thought into it, I really did.

Rumours have Kevin Walters ringing up player agents asking about the contract status of current Titans players
I don't get why? Unless he was to be named Perth Bears coach, but I'm of the understanding that's going to Brad Arthur?

Dunno why the Cheese thinks his opinion on where his Roosters salary should go. Over the last two years, it should have gone to a charity.

The fox passed way too early. never committed the hammer who was going to run down any player in the nrl. but yeah, Brown shouldnt have knocked on with 1 tackle up their sleeve.
Yeah, thought brown had the opportunity to find a support player before he got tackled but backed himself

Apparently Haslers job seriously under threat, I’m not sure why they’d see Kevvie getting the squad going

Titans have tried everything, up and coming highly rated coaches in Brennan and Holbrook, premiership winner in Des, Henry was highly experienced, and I’m not sure how accurate it was, but apparently they’ve only made the finals 3-4 times, think they came in 07

The Gold Coast is a sporting graveyard across multiple codes

Oh duh, because he'd take Des' job. How did I not pick that up

It's just never likely to work on the GC, unless they get a Bellamy or a Bennett (even Bennett might struggle) to strip the culture bare and say if you come here, get ready to get flogged and not just earn some money for lying around in the sun.

Kevin Walters ain't doing a thing to turn around the Titans and they'd be stupid to appoint him. If I was them, I'd go a Hail Mary with someone, how could it be worse? Someone who has a reputation and might need someone to take a punt on them, like a Ciraldo 3 years ago. But then, as you say, they tried that with Brennan and Holbrook, and those guys are where now?

GC Suns, I believe, still haven't made the AFL finals after however many years. Titans are a basket case, they were good around 07 when Scott Prince, Preston, Luke Bailey drove standards then fell off a cliff. The Seagulls died a quick death.

If anyone makes a Gold Coast franchise work, they should be immediately promoted to leader of the free world.

Geez you could list some overpaid duds who have represented that club. Kevin Proctor. David Fifita. Jarryd Hayne. Jamal Idris. Nate Myles. David Taylor. Ash Taylor. Konrad Hurrell.

You are right, they have tried everything. They may as well try someone with little clue. Kev fits the bill perfectly.

Yea 4 times since 05 with a couple of spoons as well.

Figuring out how to keep more of their juniors would be a start. Or maybe its getting better at picking the ones to keep? Haas, Nikora, Bula, Walsh... lots of Keebra Park old boys doing good things for other clubs. Cant keep em all obviously but probably wish they'd managed to keep those ones at least.

It’s weird isn’t it. Major population base (and growing), massive league nursery, obviously a nice lifestyle… all the ingredients that should retain/attract the best players, and then neatly translating into a dominant footy team. They’re pretty much the total opposite of Canberra – in all aspects.

I remember 2010 and the Titans ending our finals in week one (well, the Tigers effectively ended our finals that year). We were a good side but they seemed a lot better.

That was their moment. They could've gone all the way that season.

Maybe too nice a lifestyle.
Maybe they should move away from the big signing mentality and get players with a chip on their shoulder and who are motivated. Kind of like Barnett was for Warriors

TBF they’ve had a ton of disruption amongst their spine. A couple of converted fullbacks in the halves to start with, but to then lose Kini early, to be missing Foran's experience all year, Campbell for the last 3 games... that's tough.

Unlike last year, we’ve been very fortunate on the injury front with our spine. Metcalf, CHT and Egan haven’t missed a game, while CNK only missed the Broncs. No one playing busted either.

We probably haven't touched on that so far, in terms of what's turned around for us this year. But having a settled and fit spine... I reckon thats been gold for us.
