Lol.

Shame the only form of communication that exists is twitter eh.

Do you really think they should hold a Presser every time News runs a bullshit story?? Theyd never have time for anything else and i know for a fact that you would be the first to bitch that they are wasting too much time.

A tweet is fine. Stop being a whinny b*tch

If there is no chance of a breakaway, why is the NRL so desperate to bribe the clubs into signing participation agreements?

And they obviously don't remember 1995 because the arl did the same thing and it counted for nothing.

Jesus, you are a different level of stupid....

The agreements didnt hold up in court back in '95 because the ARL forced the clubs to sign under duress.

You circle jerkers need to get your story straight.

A couple of months ago there was no revolt and it was all a news beat up.

Then there was an issue after all but it was just incompetant clubs causing trouble, but the genius suits wouldn't fall for it.

Now the governing body wants to throw $48 million dollars at these clubs, "but but there's no chance of a split".

1. So why throw away that amount of cash on a non-issue?
And
2. If the clubs are so incompetant and can't be trusted with finances, why give them even more money?

The spin department will be working overtime to explain this one away.

It might even have to send two tweets!

Was there a revolt and we all just missed it except you?

it's a club threat to gain leverage in funding negotiations, just like players going on strike during CBA negotiations, could it happen, yes, will it happen, extremely unlikely.

Newscorp interest in pushing the story is because they are negotiating the NRL broadcast rights, do you think they would encourage it a year into a new five year rights contract?

The only reason you identify with their obvious agenda is because you have one of your own, which is fine, but don't label others circle jerkers because they make the reasonable assumption you are a brain-dead bogan being manipulated by the 'genius' of the likes of Buzz Rothfield & Rebecca Wilson.

Apparently, one of the major sticking points for the clubs is that Grant wants to stagger the CBAs so clubs cannot form a cartel as they are trying to do now...

Just to see the true nature of the clubs come out, id love to see Grant put several different offers on the table and say the first club to sign gets the most money/longest contract, the last to sign gets the shortest/lest cash.

That'd divide this divide the clubs SO quickly. Id just love to see who breaks first.

The clubs would see that for what it is and not break imo, they aren't idiots. In fact they would probably see it as the NRL being deliberately divisive and strengthen their resolve.

Broncos privately owned by news limited
Melbourne Storm privately owned

both these guys want more money to maximise their own wallets. The more money you dump on clubs or the salary cap the more it artifically increases the players take, reducing the funding going to juniors etc.

This is the reason the AFLs footprint is growing, is because they spend there money on both players and grass roots growing their footprint. Clubs are greeder and would shrink the pie just to get a larger slice of it.

Well if the NRL was successfully 'growing their footprint' it wouldn't be an issue. But they haven't really grown anything have they? Where is the justification for the hugely increased operating budget? Its not in the results that is for certain. It seems they are just pissing money away and are turning the game into a confusing mess both on and off the field.

Typical, self-interest selfish clubs who want more money yet have show time and time again failure to manage to run a competent business. These excessive demands will further drain the cash flow and prevent growing the game once more. Same cycle over and over again of clubs demanding cash, wasting it and running to the NRL for more cash when they need to be bailed out.

The ARLC has yet to prove they can run a competent business. We don't have a CEO at the moment because the last one had to step down to get negotiations rolling on our all important TV deal. The NRL has been haphazardly managed both on and off the field the last few years. The game is as inconsistent and confusing as ever on and off the field.

Anyone find it interesting that according to Masters the Storm CEO is leading the charge?

Does the Storm still get that additional funding, or will that come to an end with the current TV deal?

I see the Warriors are named as well.. so much for the "greedy Sydney clubs" argument...

A select committee of NRL club chairmen, led by the Storm's Bart Campbell, has reached an impasse with Grant over funding, which, unresolved, will come to a head on December 2 when all 16 clubs next meet.

But fears that a vote against Grant is not so much a negotiating ploy to extract more money from him but a plot to install puppets on the commission, with a compliant chief executive, has led one club chairman to consider contacting Campbell to withdraw his planned vote against Grant.

Campbell has impressed club chairmen with his genuine motives, including a guarantee to clubs of a minimum grant of a net 30 per cent above a salary cap of $10 million, a position supported by the other members of the committee - Roosters' Nick Politis, Bulldogs' Ray Dib, Broncos' Dennis Watt, Sea Eagles' Scott Penn and Warriors' Jim Doyle.

The clubs are all united in collectively bargaining for greater funding, for the majority it's only about money, others it's about politics. The 16 club chairs appointed Campbell as the clubs spokesman & Doyle, Watt, Dib and Politis were appointed to the sub-committee to negotiate on behalf of the 16 clubs with the NRL. I would suggest Campbell & Doyle are the more moderate voices, which is why Masters says Campbell has "genuine motives", while the others were included to 'keep them in the tent'. I think Campbell was originally appointed spokesman because he had a good relationship with Smith.

From 4 years ago, the irony is delicious considering what side of the fence Newscorp are on now.

Clubs wrestle to stay in control
PHIL ROTHFIELD THE DAILY TELEGRAPH FEBRUARY 21, 2012 12:00AM

NRL clubs are all about themselves, concerned for their own survival and little else.

They want most of the $1 billion of TV cash to save themselves from the mess that poor management over decades has left them in.

For three years these clubs have been the strongest advocates for our brand new independent commission to run rugby league.

Yet less than a fortnight after its formation, they want their own organisation because they no longer have as much control, influence and authority over the game.

What a shambles.

Officials like Nick Politis are struggling to come to grips with the fact their days of running the game are over.

The fact this new association is being officially launched in the Roosters' boardroom shows Politis has got his fingerprints all over it.

Play The Telegraph Sportsbet.com.au Supercoach 2012

The clubs are publicly saying it's just a case of formalising a united group of officials that first began meeting 12 months ago.

The most laughable part is that they keep using this word "united".

This is the same group that have been cannibalising each other for decades, stealing each other's best juniors, star players and now coaches like Wayne Bennett and Des Hasler. There is a genuine loathing between clubs like Manly and Canterbury, Souths and the Roosters, the Bulldogs and the Titans.

The chances of them all agreeing on one issue to take to the independent commission would be the price of the next television deal to one. This is simply a manoeuvre to apply the blowtorch to David Gallop, John Grant and his new commissioners for larger annual grants, larger salary caps or basically a bigger share of the TV deal.

Don't worry about the AFL threat or clubs dying in the bush.

Don't worry about the juniors, or future development or the wonderful volunteers who give up every weekend of the footy season.

Just show us the money.

While David Trodden and the clubs are desperately trying to play down the relevance and significance of the new association, it remains, in my eyes, the biggest single threat to the future of the game.

The whole idea of the independent commission was to bring all parties together under the one administration umbrella at the game's new headquarters.

To run the game without pressure and demands from outside influences that have been around since the Super League war.

It's time the clubs backed off and allowed the NRL to get the fresh start it needs.

Take a look at the make up of the AFL comp compared to 20 years ago. Hard to argue they haven't been successful in growing their footprint in both their heartlands and expansion areas whilst NRL has contracted and licked its wounds from the SL fiasco.
