NRL Salary Cap/CBA -2023 - 2027

Actually I earn more than the minimum NRL wage. Not by much, mind you. But this idea that ALL of the players in the NRL are highly paid earning machines is wrong. David Fifita can pay his way the rest of his life and may not get approved to access the fund, depending on the set up. Can a bloke in the situation of say, Danny Sullivan years ago say the same though? Of course not.

It blows my mind that anyone could possibly argue against access to healthcare funding assistance for these guys. Especially when the folks doing the arguing already have it. And the inference that they're irresponsible for wanting it is frankly laughable
No one is arguing against health funding

They want to move it and other items from being a NRL FBT tax item for NRL to manage and giving it back to their employees ie the players to manage within their salary package

Its simple accounting issue

That's a fair point but I'd just note the bloke I quoted called the players irresponsible for wanting some post career support instead of just getting private health cover, and suggest that indicates some are actually arguing against it, tbh

Bully for you. Unless you got injured at work it's not relevant though. And if you did, workers comp will pay for it. How completely irresponsible of you!
If I can wait months for surgery because I was too stupid not to get private healthcare then so can someone whose average pay is over 200k

lol

They already have 12 months to get surgeries done ✔️

If it’s not about the end result money as Clint Newton states, just pass a lesser amount of the rise to NRL players and redistribute to NRLW and private health premiums, and retirement funds. Sounds simple but the RLPA seems to want more, no matter the initial reward offered.

The game has put itself on a decent financial platform and excessive expenditure now will not be sensible for long term planning to ensure that rugby league maintains its status.

My last knee reco I was still pretty much 8-10k out of pocket with private health when you included scans, excess, surgeons gap, physio gap, and all that shit.

God forbid blokes who bash themselves to pieces for your entertainment every week want some sort of access to assistance for issues after their career.
They do so for the chance and reality of outsized paypackets. Their choice.

Ok but do you also oppose Workers Compensation for, I dunno, Billy McMiner when he gets his arms ripped off in a machine accident out at the mine?

After all, it's his choice.

We are talking about for injuries incurred whilst playing for 12 months post retirement

The question seems to be what is fair coverage, If 12 months isn't enough then is what they want fair and reasonable?

They get a say in things like the menu? Or just serve customers as is their job?

They get a say in their hours, conditions, super, benefits...I'm absolutely baffled as to how you think the menu at McDonald's relates to a medical assistance fund in any way?

Maybe you are, it's a bit of a fixation it seems. The whole idea is that 12 months is insufficient and that's what the players are arguing.

They will add on 6 months or a year which is more than enough for Andrew Fifita to get his 12 surgeries in and paid for by the nrl insurance …. Including a bbl

I think there's an argument that Billy is in it for life whereas these blokes are chasing the big money knowing it can't last at best past 15 years.

There's also a very good chance Billy is on more than a large chunk of the NRL, given ludicrous FIFO salaries.

Still, it doesn't answer the question.

Not at all more the seat making the decisions is the problem with their request
As for the medical assistance fund. Does any sport have unlimited cover post retirement?

There is a range of demands from the RLPA, not just the 12 month medical cover, theres the rules changes and seat on the board, regarding them, theres the expansion to 12 NRLW team, wtf why are they arguing that? The more teams the more participation in womens league, more money to go to the cap spent (oh but less teams means, more money in their current players pockets) fmd neanderthals are running the assylum...
We finally have an ARLC that has gone and streamlined costs in rugby league and not just pissed away revenue like they used to, finally expanded to a 17th NRL team (which was way overdue in SEQ, should have had 4 clubs there by now since the crushers folded) and expanded the womens game to now 10 teams (with a possible warriors return, and penrith womens comp gearing up on the way, souths basically set up, and dolphins are said to be included soon too, as part of their licence agreement) these peanuts, are focused on lining their wallets and are trying to drive the direction of expansion and funds allocated... f**k that, stick to your lane, kick goals, tackle, run and pass, leave the thinking to the commission
