NRL strikes back at claims it rejected pregnancy policy in CBA negotiations
NRL responds to ‘incorrect and misleading’ claims over pregnancy policy

There is a range of demands from the RLPA, not just the 12 month medical cover, theres the rules changes and seat on the board, regarding them, theres the expansion to 12 NRLW team, wtf why are they arguing that? The more teams the more participation in womens league, more money to go to the cap spent (oh but less teams means, more money in their current players pockets) fmd neanderthals are running the assylum...
We finally have an ARLC that has gone and streamlined costs in rugby league and not just pissed away revenue like they used to, finally expanded to a 17th NRL team (which was way overdue in SEQ, should have had 4 clubs there by now since the crushers folded) and expanded the womens game to now 10 teams (with a possible warriors return, and penrith womens comp gearing up on the way, souths basically set up, and dolphins are said to be included soon too, as part of their licence agreement) these peanuts, are focused on lining their wallets and are trying to drive the direction of expansion and funds allocated... f**k that, stick to your lane, kick goals, tackle, run and pass, leave the thinking to the commission
Not at all more the seat making the decisions is the problem with their request
As for the medical assistance fund. Does any sport have unlimited cover post retirement?
Well thats the problem now, any stupid idea to halt any type of expansion or rule change will now result in a "possible strike action" in every negotiation from now on... the best the game can do now is give in to the demands, but assure that the players loudest and clint newton get the arse, to hinder any future resistance next CBA negotiation, as this has turned ugly for selfish reasons, not anything thats relevant to the actual CBASure but I'm not saying everything they want is reasonable either. And honestly during bargaining it's normally not. That's how union pricks make 'concessions'
Players are overpaid, you are talking about the fringe players that fade away into very early retirement after not getting picked up/shipped off to ESL/or lower grade stalwarts who make up the lower end of the 30 man roster.. yes they should have benifits too, but you can be in those 12 games you mentioned, then get a real job that doesn't involve bashing into an opposition player... their will always be fringe players...no matter the salary cap, there will always be that bench guy that never gets the starting role... maybe the rule should be for those who don't play more than 12 games a season, or to the discretion of the clubs/arlc on who is covered by an extended injury cover, certainly not the RLPA, fmdIs there any suggestion they want it to be unlimited? I actually haven't read that. Of course, workers comp is in many ways. Eg NSW is either within six months of the injury OR the diagnosis of the injury, meaning if you damage something minor and it turns into a major issue five years later you're still covered. So is there any suggestion for example that it won't work that way?
I think the issue here is people's opinions of NRL players being overpaid, they can't get past it despite the fact that most are on average or below and have a career measured in dozens of games

If a 'normal' person has Income Protection Insurance, that covers them in case they get an injury that puts them out of work for however long they choose.
This used to be very hard for a professional sports person to do. It isn't anymore.
If the players are looking for extra protection then maybe they should be looking at what's on offer in IPI, just like the rest of us can do.
I cannot say it enough, I do not think the players are being given the best information.
In regards to IPI, this is a personal choice, if they choose not to pay for it, then so be it.
They have a good deal, maybe even better, than workers comp whilst they are playing.Another fair point, but I think the issue again is the bottom half of the scale who might wash out with no prospects and serious injuries?
Ultimately I feel like the goal is to give NRL players access to everyday benefits. Yeah they get paid a shit tonne if they make it, but I think people miss that it doesn't always mean they get the same benefits as Bill McMiner with his T-Rex arms. It blows my mind that they don't really have access to workers comp in the same way we do and if this fund acts in the same way it's tough to argue IMO
It’s getting to the point with mri and pet scanning that we can be pretty confident in differentiating CTE from other dementias. CTE now has its own medical diagnostic criteria.I thought they couldn't diagnose CTE except by autopsy.

this will only Improve with the research currently under way and ongoing monitoring of brain changes in ex players.
