Absolutely but Newton brought a lot of that on himself. Fans supporting the players should be a no-brainer as they’re less likely to support the authoritative body but when you ban the media, you no longer control the narrative. He should’ve played the media, not ban it. Butt-hurt journalists with an axe to grind won’t help your cause. He’s made it at least by appearance, be about him and not the players. I reckon he’d like his time again on some aspects of the negotiations.

The fact that people in this thread are believing the agenda driven garbage of Hooper and Weidler because the players aren't speaking to the media says more about the posters than anything.

That's because the RLPA are only giving vague comments about what the problems are. As such we oinly have their initial demands as to what to go on, a number of which are unrealistic in any sense of the word (e.g. having a seat on the Commission).

I think some of that has more to do with PR’s baiting than buying the media line

newton said on triple mmm he is happy for himself and abdo to step aside if it meant getting the deal done. he said it is more important than him.
this is then offered to him and he says no
wonder why there is no deal????? prob because you cant take newton at his word, makes you wonder how many times he has agreed to other things then changed his mind.
like changing a largely accepted agreement in 100 places?? Maybe Vlandys could explain why they felt the need to do that and slow the process down even further?

Either the players know exactly what the outstanding issues are or Clint has overstepped the mark

obviously when the players see how useless he is he may be out of a job
Have you heard most players speak? And you want them to be able to critically analyse a 300 page legal document? Lol

Again newton didn’t ban players from the media. The rlpa put forward a proposed strategy to 50 player reps and they supported the action. The players made the decision. I think you’re all giving newton way too much credit here lol.
Nrl are playing you fools like a violin.

Vlandys quote from the article link on the last page

“The introduction of a new industrial relations mediator would be extremely counterproductive and inefficient.
To bring in someone new, with no context for these concessions or the weighting of the concessions or understanding of professional sport and the whole rugby league ecosystem, would take us backwards on time and effort and the ultimate goal of reaching agreement.

“After all, we already have an independent facilitator who was put forward by them, and who has spent eight months on the matter and is completely knowledgeable of all the detail and understanding. It has, however, become apparent to me that they don’t want a resolution or a deal done. They want a confected conflict.

“I’m at a loss as to what their agenda is, but over time I’m sure it will become apparent. In the meantime, the only loser is the game and the players.”
Thats convenient Given the rlpa have stated they will abide immediately by any independent mediator decision Id have thought it would have actually speeded things up. Must be a fear factor from nrl here.

If that’s the case, he’s not much of a leader then is he. Shoulda told them it’s a dumb idea.

That’s your opinion that it’s a dumb idea, probably fuelled by listening to the media lol.

It’s the lessor of two evils in trying to force the nrl to get its sht together. No administration in the history of the game has got itself into this position with the players, SL war aside.

I don't know why 2 afl fans are so anti V'landys.

Everything is going to work out fine, Newton will get his next cushy job and the players and NRL will keep flourishing.

Which is a load of crap. Understanding these sorts of agreements is literally the mediator's job.

Vlandys is at a loss about their agenda? How about the fact that they don't want the NRL to own their medical data and the ability to sell it without the players' permission, which is literally against the law?
Havnt they already had 3 independent moderators ?

I'd say the NRL landscape is different due to it being run by an independent commission, where clubs need thier hand held by the IC otherwise they would run the NRL into insolvency if given too much power.

In regards to players tracking data, who do you think the NRL is illegally selling it to ?

Players get 8 weeks off for example, how many work places get that?

So of course an IR person may not be useful here

Well, where else would I get my information other than from the media? Given that most of us only have the media to get our information from, it would make sense for RLPA to be on good terms with the facilitator of that information, would it not? Has nothing to do with my opinion, just common sense, I woulda thought.

no. They were employed by the nrl. About as independent as the commission lol

Media always has an agenda, start there and you won’t go far wrong!

Precisely why they should work with the media rather than fight it. Tough ask, I know but you could at least get some of the independent media on side and let them call out the Hoopers and Weidlers and the other f**kwits
