NRL Salary Cap/CBA -2023 - 2027

That’s the thing, the RLPA had terrible numbers when it was a paid membership, what happens now, is the NRL funds the RLPA directly, so all players are covered by the RLPA, rather than it being a traditional membership Union. Effectively, the couple of million it that is used to fund the RLPA is taken from the overall amount of money set aside for the players. The NRL did this to help try and create a strong players voice/Union, yet the RLPA act like the NRL are going to run off and sell their medical
records for millions to China…. Ridiculous as always.
The NRL should scrap the current RLPA funding model, put that couple of million back onto the salary cap and let it go back to being a paid membership, see how many players value the RLPA enough to not pocket the extra cash instead of paying a membership.

Ok based on this it doesn't sound like a union then as being part of a union is optional (and if my memory serves me correctly compulsory unionism was made illegal).

The reason why I raise this is funding. If the RLPA says its "our money" then fine, the NRL should do as you've said above and increase the spend to reflect the number of players and push it through the salary cap and let the players make a choice of it they want to be part of a union.

You have to remember that you don't have be a union member to get the benefits of what a union negotiates with an employer, so it would be interesting to see how united all players are on the current negotiations.

If fans are prepared to watch a bunch a park footballers why would sponsors care?

Sponsors pay for the exposure.

Have Souffs fans stopped watching because no Latrell?

NSW Cup is filled with NRL teams. Why don't fans turn up to it, and why doesn't it have a tv deal similar size to the NRL?

Are you seriously arguing that the NRL is valued the same whether it's the elite playing or some nobodies from group 10?

I noticed that the NRL insignia is taped over, is this over the pay dispute? If so talk About cutting the hand feeds you. why should the league be responsible for what player do after they retire. it’s doesn’t happen any any other occupation.

I posted this comment on the game thread last night. There actions are making me turn off Rugby League also how the game is run.

If that group 10 nobodies is winning? Why would the sponsors of that club care

Again look at the Panthers.

Replaced Api a NSW hooker with a fringe hooker in Kenny. No sponsors or fans jumped ship

The following was a rather pertinent point made by Andrew Webster in his column in today's Sydney Morning Herald (source: https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/it...ble-to-treat-concussions-20230727-p5drl8.html) regarding the baulking by the NRL over a mediator-

The line being spun is that it doesn't want someone unfamiliar with the nuances and vagaries of rugby league to get involved. According to industrial relations experts, that's nonsense. A mediator's job is to facilitate a conversation between the two parties, not squabble over minor details. A mediator's decision is also not binding, so what does the NRL have to lose?

The grandstanding from both sides in recent days show that winning the PR battle means more than getting the deal done.

I don't often agree with Webster, but I think he's right on the above.

On a side note, players do have individual sponsors and not the jersey number.

For example, at the Roosters ACFS Port Logistics do not sponsor the No. 1 jersey, they sponsor James Tedesco -

Lots of clubs have organised sponsorships for players. Heck they are always read out by the ground announcers at home games. These sponsorships are different from one which are for the entire club (e.g. Steggles for the Roosters, Oak for the Panthers, MG Motor Group for the Rabbitohs).

So let's ensure when talking about sponsorships people are addressing the right ones.

When Manu played fullback, He had a different sponsor?

For example

Tago was in the team

replaced by Peachey - same sponsor, clearly they sponsor the Panthers number 3 jersey. Not the player in it

You referring to this? Scroll down to Players Club.

This looks like the exact same set-up as the Rabbitohs where they have 17/18 sponsors and each week and it follows the the run on side not necessarily the person. I think this money would go to the clubs rather than a third party deal where the club is supposed to have no dealings with.

Correct. Most clubs seem to do this.

The only way around it is to have each player have individual numbers.

30 sponsors 1 for every player.

The players managers source them personal sponsorship depending on their level, So elite players earn more for their standing in the game but that is seperate to sponsors getting onboard a certain clubs jersey number

Scheduling is the #1 killer

NRL admin values 45 min grass growing sessions, too. Fans hate it

NRL RG Games should end 15 min before NRL kickoff

The same issue will happen if they play NRLW before NRL

Fans will remain at pubs outside and watch the other NRL match

ThuNF and FNF early matches clash with work, Sat 3pm/5:30pm usually clashes with junior footy

Sun footy is reserved for bottom 4 teams

Sundays have now become a family outing day and no longer a RL day out. RL habit is dead

There’s a few jerseys in the Tigers/Souths game where the NRL logo is showing. Not sure if this is a silent protest, or the taped has come off.

BREAKING NEWS:

Next week union mandated smoko breaks will be implemented at the 20 min mark of each half to cover up NRL logos so fans continue to remain unaware of what competition they are watching.

you are saying that companies pay it for people. they dont pay it rhey deduct it from their wages which is a totally different thing

That's exactly the same as the NRL. The funds for the RLPA come out of a deduction from the salary cap, or in other words, the players' wages.

Clint Newton's legacy in rugby league.....will he be viewed as a "Wish" version of John Ribot?

There is a bit of amateur hour in both sides in all of this....but at least V'Landy's has some runs on the board.
