NRL to buy share of Super League

Good point about it being super league not the whole game

What happens with clubs outside that want to get in
I guess the NRL Europe will have a fixed number of teams like the NRL here does. If we want to expand in the future, we could call for bids and be strategic about who gets a team without the chaos of P&R that doesn't give expansion areas security to grow. RL isn't big enough in the UK & Europe for P&R.

The RFL will continue to run their domestic 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd division with P&R but without the English NRL teams. The only difference is that the English first division won't be a pro league and will no longer be considered 1st grade RL.

All English clubs could still compete in the Challenge Cup to give it prestige and continuity as the oldest club cup competition in the world.

poor analogy. A better one would be the Aleague could do better in Aus if it just learnt from what the EPL has done.

you didn't answer the question. NRL has little competition in its market and where it does have serious competition it has achieved little. No teams in perth, adelaide or tasmania, min impact in victoria.
SL is competing against the biggest sport in the world with a local competition thats in the top 3 sports competitions in the world. Good luck turning it around.
I don't get the argument that ESL is competing against Soccer, they are played at different times of year and surely there's millions of northerners who prefer a contact sport ? North England has a population bigger than NSW and QLD combined, what's the ESL doing to tap into that population?

If the NRL were to help the ESL the first lesson would be to make it an even playing field. Having the same 2 teams win every year isn't going to attract fans from outside those 2 areas.

Small things like introducing and growing Oztag are proven ways of growing the sport. Also having a FTA broadcast partner....even if the fta partner doesn't pay to televise the games it's still worth the financial hit as its a proven way of growing the game. Putting a sport behind a paywall is the quickest way to kill it.

In Frances Elite 1 they also need a FTA partner and they need to stop wasting the small amount of money they have on washed up players like Procter, Whare and Maloney and instead invest it in keeping thier talented juniors from going to Rugby. France have the talent they just need the $$ to keep thier top talented youngsters.

This is just off the top of my head but I'm sure the nrl could help the esl and elite 1 go deeper into metrics

The same clubs that voted out the Toronto Wolfpack because they didn't add any value to the league lol

that’s what img is doing, both of those things. Evening the comp through licensing and SL is now on fta.

A true sliding doors moment.

The SL could currently have 3 Northern American teams. Toronto, Ottawa and New York.

Having said that, there's no reason under the IMG process Toronto couldn't get back into SL.
Unfortunately IMG have limited SL to no more than two non-English clubs. Catalan being one and Toulouse knocking on the door as the other.

Hopefully the NRL work with the top 8 English clubs and form a European conference and add Toulouse, Catalans, North Wales (new big money owners) and Toronto. Then the NRL has an international footprint of Aus, NZ, PNG, Eng, France,Canada and Wales and the possibility of Fiji in the future.

That gives you new commercial opportunities and a fantastic base to launch the international game to new heights from.

The problem with the game in the UK and it's been alluded to already in this thread is that the clubs have a stranglehold on the strategic direction of the sport. This includes clubs that bring no added value and based in very small catchment areas that already have 2-5 SL clubs.

These are the same clubs that vote on all key commercial aspects of SL and more than likely are the same ones reaching out to the NRL. RL has become to political in the UK

If i were the NRL it would be much better to invest in a pro french league, there's much more upside and there are areas that have historic, latent support. Like Albi, Carcassonne, Avignon, Lot-et-Garonne and Lyon.
