NRL wants two conference comp

A two conference system could work if it was set up with fluid conferences like fifa world cup groups and less solid like american sports.

Have the conferences set up with seeded teams (2 grand finalists) and pots made up with the teams in the top8 in pot 1 (3 teams picked) then sides 9th to 14th in pot 2 (3 teams picked) and the remainder in pot 3.

Set up a season where you play everyone in ur group 2 times home and away. And 1 time against each team in other group. Home and away being determined, if the 2 teams were in the same group previous year the team who finished higher gets home ground and if the 2 teams were not in the same group then the home team is the side who played away season earlier.

At the end of the regular season the top 4 from each group advance. Amd the finals mirror the current nrl system
1st and 2nd from each group play finals like top 4 amd 3rd and 4th like bottom 4.

..or they could just have NSW & qld (& others) conferences with finals at sfs & lang park followed by superbowl

Not needed till we get to 22 clubs. Id prefer a 20 club single league with 20 games a season (one against everyone and Magic weekend). Go back to rep weekends for all 3 origin /pacific tests. 9's pre season. 2 week longer test window end of season

Or Sydney clubs plus central coast and Canberra and newy in one conference

and all the dregs in the other one
The Sydney/Canberra/CC Conference can be called the “Okay Boomer Conference”. The Dregs can be called “Where the game will grow Conference”.

NSW & qld conferences;
10 NSW teams
7 other teams plus;
Ipswich Jets (merger with firehawks) out of new Springfield stadium.
Pasifika (based in cairns but all games in Tonga, nz, Samoa & png).
Central qld Capra's.

22 rounds with break for origin & rep. Play other teams once & double up against rivals.

Conference finals at sfs & lang park.
Super bowl venue sold to highest bidder.

Zero credibility!

Wtf? 1. According to News Corp, three new expansion teams are believed to be worth $20 million in annual funding support for the next 20 years — a $400 million windfall for the NRL.

Hahah 2. There is also talk of the beloved North Sydney Bears being part of a merger with a Pasifika team

and no mention of conferences lol

Agreed wont happen that way, politis mentioned we had Adelaide and Perth, they might be looking to go back there again along with the Cairns/png team

That's 3 teams in non traditional rugby league markets to prop up. Won't happen. Perth doesn't even have a solid bid after all these years. Peter V'Landys is not type to piss away gains from expansion

I think a two conference comp with 20 teams def could work. Not sure what advantages really are though?

Wellington, perth, png/Pacifica, firehawks, Adelaide all options. What are realistic in a ten year timeframe is the interesting bit.
Hard to see nrl turning down the wa govt support whilst they stay in power,
Wellington throws up some exciting nz development opportunities but needs decent backers,
png seems pipedream unless feds really are going to throw $30mill a year forever at it.
adelaide has had very little ground work but you could parachute the bears in I suppose to reduce risk if deemed important to cover all 5 metro cities.

what’s the advantage of a 2conference structure over a twenty team single comp?

The advantage is more set rivalries, home & away against those within you're conference, one game against then the rest of the other conference (switch it next season)
If its a 20 club, 2 conference system, then it would be 27 rounds of NRL

No its selling grand final venue & guarantees two markets represented. Preferably NSW & qld.

TV doesn't care about Adelaide or Perth. Lol.

Its amusing that ppl think the NRL is going to turn into the afl & start propping teams in nonheartland markets. Fantasists
