NRL's growth mindset points to 18th team. And it ain't Perth.

Well if I recall correctly you were the person who said just a few weeks ago (before the netball drama) that Gina Rinehart would be a good potential backer for a Perth RL side, so forgive me if I doubt you somewhat on this issue.

By the way, I have no doubt that a Perth team will be backed by mining companies, particularly those who are helping to destroy the planet. The whole comp in its 'glory day' was sponsored by cigarette companies. Vice is a part of life and frequently a part of sport.

And the inaugural jersey sponsor of the Perth Pirates is....

I remember that quote too, although not sure it was PR who said it... might have been that Alt

Changing quickly though, with a lot of people priced out of the Sydney housing market and the new trend of working from home x-amount of days per week the central coast is ideally positioned to see a population and socio-economic transformation. The company my daughter works for Gelion who are manufacturing some new-fandangled battery developed out of Sydney Uni. have set up a manufacturing plant at Somersby a stones throw from Gosford. The Laundy`s know it as well :

" Veteran pub owner Arthur and his son Stuart Laundy have swooped on for the historic Bayview Hotel at Woy Woy on the NSW Central Coast paying a record $38 million for the sprawling waterfront asset."
doesn't change the fact there are 9 clubs just down the road and 1 just up....

Sunshine Coast would be a better option for a regional team - possible brand new or greatly upgraded Kawana stadium for 2032 Olympics. SC is a major growth area and could become a tech hub in the future with a planned high bandwidth fibre optic line direct to asia. Will be interesting to see what the Dolphins plan is with Sunshine Coast though...

yeh because rivalries in Sydney draw massive crowds lol
there isn’t the corporate support for stand alone clubs in Wollongong or gosford. That’s the cold hard fact.
I put Reflector on Ignore aged ago. He's boring and doesn't have a clue. The bloke thinks the world begins and ends in NSW and wants to revert back to the old days. He doesn't understand basic economics or the fact RL is no longer semi-professional.

If the bulk of the game is based out of NSW with no coverage in 40% of the country's metropolitan markets then what value does it offer to national advertisers?

Sydney's rivalries have not generated strong sponsorship and corporate hospitality sales. The Sydney commercial sector has decided it does not want to support nine NRL clubs in the one metropolitan area.

If Perth are the next team to join the NRL, and I sincerely hope that you are right, then it will be largely down to one P.V`landy`s and Andrew Abdo.
You should be big enough to admit, especially since you have been so quick to condemn him repeatedly and vehemently, that this is his baby.
The chances of this ever having happened on anyone else`s watch is remote, certainly not within the next ten years.
If Perth get in it will be down to them presenting a strong business case after 12 or so years of lobbying for a team and V'landys having the sense to do what other administrators were too gutless to do. V'landys is the best leader we've ever had.

That’s very true in a lot of ways. Our current teams and set ups don’t live up to their potential. The solution though isn’t to admit teams that are going to have limited potential, it’s to admit teams with a lot of potential, eg Brisbane 2, as we’re finally doing, WA etc.
Which will make life tougher for the strugglers from Sydney who cannot generate enough money from sponsorship and corporate hospitality to compete with the big boys. They'll jump and and down and demand they get more funding from the ARLC to cover the shortfall. We're seeing it right now. It'll lead to the death of the game at the community level. Other sports, particularly fumbleball and RU, will fill this void, especially in the country.

After costing the game hundreds of millions of $’s? That’s a big call!
he may the best for expansion since arko, I’ll give him that if he brings in A Genuine perth club.

I couldn't care less about the money he cost us. It would have been squandered on greedy players and clubs while the game withers away and dies at the grassroots level. Under Greenberg, Smith and Grant the money was spent on greedy clubs, most of whom don't belong in a national competition. Thanks to those idiots granting so much money to pissant clubs with few fans in Sydney we're now stuck with them.

Having a new team enter the competition is the most excitement I've felt for the game in years.

That’s incorrect and somewhat unfair
under smith grassroots funding went from $35mill to $55mill
under Greenberg it went from $55 mill to $88mill
last year under Vlandys it had dropped to $63mill

They f**ked the Queensland Cup and didn't expand the NRL. It is thanks to them that we're stuck with small Sydney clubs and will never be able to truly expand to become a national sport.

Didn’t Vlandys fight to keep Cronulla in? He’s Upped the club grant to the point even the smallest club is now profitable and safe? And also picked a far north brisbane team when they city really needed a south city brisbane club? you watch him put the fifo bear into Perth next.

Yeh he will have expanded but sadly with the wrong teams and whilst maintaining the status quo elsewhere.

V'landys has made some f**k ups, including the ones you mentioned.

The sad thing is the ARLC is designed in a way that allows the clubs to bully it into doing this sort of thing. We're stuck with what we've got as the clubs don't care about expansion.

Who says we ever needed a "south Brisbane city" team??? You sound petulant coz the best bid out of the 3 one, again for the dolts out there the firehawks would have cannibalized both SEQ teams, and were run by arrogant morons... watch shane richo and his brother fumble thru their bid launch

His decisions in Brisbane have completely screwed the sport going forward to the point that it would have been better not to expand at all, and though it might please you, bringing a 'genuine' Perth club into comp will do little to nothing to compensate for those negative impacts.

Besides, do you really trust him to not give the Perth license to the Bears?

Wtf do you know or care about brisbane, my family lives in marsden, the community there aren't either way fanatical regarding the bronx or the titans, yet they are stuck right between the two, the league heavyweights in QCup are mostly on the east and north of the city, thats Easts, Redcliffe, Norths and Wynnum.. the rest are making up numbers, and the bronx are exactly west of those 4 teams... souths has been a shambles since taking on the logan area, and ipswich might as well be Newcastle from syd, as they are so far out west... if you want people who are interested in RL, you plant a team in that area, northeastern brissy, aka redcliffe... easts shat the bed with their bid
