NRL's growth mindset points to 18th team. And it ain't Perth.

Sure, and plenty of people that were lynched in the US had nothing to do with their race…

Ethnic and racial tribalism is a unique problem, which has unique societal outcomes, and unique solutions.

You are either intentionally misrepresenting the argument at this point, or are honestly astoundingly ignorant.
Or you just overthinking it again, PR is right, shit happens everywhere regardless of race, ethnicity whatever, i hate parra supporters, its just engrained in the local society you live in... some time last year a gang of warriors fans on the central coast, started being racist toward brent naden at a warriors V penrith game.... seriously it was over in minutes, no fights, the media went on with it for days... Australia is so placid that its not even a real issue, cut to the UK and soccer games have brawls every game, its just engrained there regardless of the instigator

I agree, i remember the roits during NSL in sydney... not good, but that's decades of growth in a competition from yester year, the EPL stil has these issues, not all racial, but still tensions/hatred between clubs, its just hoolganism we are lucky Australia frowns upon that nowadays
So it’s just hooliganism when the white supremacists and Neo Nazis take over a team in response to the “black team”.

It’s just hooliganism when the results of a football team are taken as evidence of certain races or ethnicities being superior to others.

When football is used as an outlet for ethnic conflict, and young blokes are getting jumped and stabbed in the streets because their support of a team is taken as evidence that they are either responsible for, or support, happenings overseas that have nothing to do with them.

I could go on, but I can’t be bothered.

Yep... what else do think it is... the board, Justin Pascoe, cant go blaming the club for hooliganism... not one that would be created in todays current climate

I’m not overthinking shit, you’re just a toddler playing with your dad’s gun.

You have no understanding of the dangers of the societal impacts of going down the path you are suggesting, and probably don’t really care because you don’t believe they’ll effect you.

If we followed your path it’d just further balkanise Australia into a collection of racial and ethnic groups all competing with each other instead of a single unified group (like America) which would head us done a dangerous path that always leads to calamity and atrocities.

f**k me it’s insulting that people like you are allowed to vote…
Fk me, how about fk you, cant make a credible stance on hooliganism, and think anyone from a different ethnic background, travels around in gangs ready to punch on, just coz..... Pasifika!!! This is Australia and New Zealand, not the states or UK, where all this shit happens...
Youre over thinking it dane, keep babbling and your dribbling to a minimum...

And as for MY path, i dont have a pasifika path or bid, or idea this was all on the back of andrew john's idea not my own, just coz i posted it doesn't mean i agree with it, but im not against it either, or anything like that, youre all about lets not do that period, so if you say it, your all automatically idiots, if you aren't with me...
You're not smarter than everyone else, you're overreaching, and over reacting, and quite unbearable atm

We aren’t talking about nationalism or national teams though are we. We’re talking about ethnic and racial teams.

Vastly different and to pretend otherwise is either ignorance or a straw man.

Yet if somebody came up with an (e.g.) Anglo Allstars, where the players have to prove their blood ancestry no less, you’d happily join the chorus of people decrying it as discriminatory and racist… It’s almost as if you don’t have consistent ethical principles.

Which is where these sorts of issues really start to get out of hand because you’ve created a genuine privileged class at that point that is allowed rights and freedoms that others are not. Also, what starts with football teams, health clinics, etc, will escalate with time, because history shows us that these things always escalate with time.

Before you say it; even if you personally would be alright with an Anglo or European Allstars, you have to admit that it’d be a massive scandal in the mainstream.
The original all stars team was basically a white team vs a non White team

so what

I get both sides of the argument but I dont think there is anything wrong in celebrating your own culture and alligining with it as long as you dont use it as an excuse to genuinely hate on someone who isnt in the same culture. Same as nationalism, race, religion or any other tribal leaning people have. in fact Dane the very answer to what you are showing examples of is to respect and celebrate each other’s cultures, not pretend they don’t exist. They always will so let’s turn it form a point of segregation to a point of celebration.
I think australia does this better than most countries and probably one of the reasons we dont see the same level of intolerance and violence to each other as some places. Not that it doesn’t exist at all, as TimMinchin sang “we’re all a little bit racist” lol.

There's a really racist soccer club in Israel called Beitar Jerusalem. Some of the things its fans have done are downright disgusting.

soccer fans generally are a special kind of stupid. if they‘re not hating for race or religion they’re hating for someone supporting a different team Or being from a different country.
Generally it’s just an excuse for pssed up young blokes to fight with each other. If it wasn’t soccer they used as their vehicle it’d be something else. too much testosterone, underdeveloped frontal lobes and amygdala’s, add alcohol and bravado of a tribe around them and bingo, dckheads of the world unite!

the stupidity of it can be seen in the video you posted, they hate arabs, until one scores for their club lol.

I think he was from Chechnya. Hundreds or thousands of fans walked out after he scored and rioted on the streets.

I remember when the NSL had similar problems, albeit on a smaller scale.

WA has continued to show an appreciation for rugby league. 59,000 fans witnessed State of Origin game two at Perth Stadium in 2019.

Over the last decade, the Rabbitohs have brought at least one match per year to Western Australia, with an average crowd of over 15,000. Comparatively, in a sport that averages crowds of 15,000 in Sydney, reaching that number in Perth is an excellent result.

Since Abdo’s announcement of the expansion, an exciting development has occurred.

Perth businessman Tony Sage, a key supporter of WA sport and owner of Perth Glory, has registered the names West Coast Quokkas as well as Perth Quokkas and Western Quokkas as possible names for a WA team. This also came with the news an expansion group is keen to invest 30 million dollars into a WA league side.

“It would be a huge benefit not only for ex-pat fans but more importantly, to help the grassroots which is not gaining ground in WA,” Sage told Nine Wide World of Sports.

“It’s not the National Rugby League without teams in Perth and Adelaide.”

The West Coast Pirates are the current top tier side in WA.

The side competed in the SG Ball cup until 2020 when the season was suspended due to COVID-19. The side could not return in 2021 due to financial reasons and uncertainty around border closures.

Currently, the Pirates are focused on developing talent within the state, with nine pathway competitions for both boys and girls. These pathways are key in developing local talent for a potential NRL bid for 2023.

NRL WA Chairman John Sackson spoke to NRL.com on the possibility of expansion into his state.

“You’ve got to have those sorts of goals, and that is the goal for major stakeholders in the game here,” he said.

“We are focusing as best we can on growth in participation and strengthening the foundations of the game here, but we would certainly love the opportunity to have a franchise in years to come.”

A key criticism of the WA league, even expressed by Tony Sage, was a lack of local participation. Sackson suggests this is wrong.

“We’re up around 4000 participants now,” he told NRL.com.

“Participation numbers in Western Australia grew a remarkable 16.7% in 2018, almost five times the Australian average of 3.5%.”

The ultimate success for NRLWA and the Pirates is to produce juniors that go on to play in the NRL.

Former Canterbury winger Curtis Rona and ex-Dragon’s fullback Adam Quinlan are two of over 20 players who have moved up from the Pirates into the NRL.

Mick Potter, former WA Reds player, spoke on what it would take to create a successful WA team.

“It would make it a proper national competition, and they (NRLWA) have got the facilities over there to cater for it,” he told NRL.com.

“They have got the fan base to cater for it, so the distance is the only issue, but all of the other sports are able to cater for that.”

While the front-runners for expansion are currently Brisbane and New Zealand, if the NRL wants to become a truly national sport, a Western Australian side needs to be in the expansion plans.

I wouldn't exactly look to this as an example of racial and social cohesion. The US even today is strongly divided in most things.
