NRLW TV ratings killing AFLW

I would like to watch it all. NRLW and NSW cup and god forbid QLD Cup. Not overly interested in Flegg, its so so.
I would rather have those extra games on the TV than repeats of Matthew Johns etc
QRL has its own streaming service for every Qcup match, it's been great. Hopefully NSWRL gets something similar

Any NRLW tv viewer figures?
77 000 on Foxtel, that`s STB. Didn`t make the top 20 FTA metro which means it was less than 215 000 which was the lowest ranked show.
If I has to guess it probably came in around the 150 000 - 200 000 mark metro, which for League translates to 100 000 - 150 000 regional and with Kayo rating about .84 of Foxtel STB that would be ~60k Kayo. So we`d be looking at roughly 400k - 450k total.

I'm trying to find a source for the actual Grand FInal. Might be a tad too early. Where are you looking?

TV ratings show women’s Rugby League a huge hit with viewers in Australia

LEAGUE EXPRESS 10/04/2022

As Sydney Roosters claimed the NRL Women’s Premiership crown with a 16-4 win over St George Illawarra in the Grand Final at Redcliffe, TV ratings data in Australia has shown a significant surge in interest in the competition.

In the last NRLW season in 2020 (the 2021 season having been cancelled because of the pandemic) the average match audience on terrestrial broadcaster Channel Nine was about 98,000 and on Foxtel about 35,000.

So far this season, the average audience on Channel Nine has exceeded the combined average for both broadcasters in 2020.

An average of around 150,000 have tuned in to watch matches on Channel Nine, representing a 53 per cent increase in viewers.

And on Foxtel, most games are attracting between 50,000 and 60,000 viewers.

The combined average of more than 200,000 represents a 50 percent increase on 2020, rivalling the figures for NRL and AFL matches that are played in early timeslots on Saturdays and Sundays.

The numbers appear to vindicate the NRL’s decision to expand the NRLW competition to eight teams in 2023 and ten in 2024.

“Probably the last couple of years, the girls are starting to get a bit more profile,” Jillaroos coach Brad Donald told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Those figures are about what I would have thought. The Grand Prix wouldn’t have helped. Very solid ratings all season. A genuine area of growth participation wise, profile wise and potentially financially.

Yeah mate the only definite figure I have is the 77 000 Foxtel STB number from the TV Tonight site.

site.https://tvtonight.com.au/2022/04/sunday-10-april-2022.html

As I said the rest of the figures I put up are estimates extrapolated from the regular season figures for what we might have got for the GF.

Article in The Australian claiming that 264 000 viewers tuned in on either channel 9 or Foxtel for the NRLW GF, disappointing, but as the article points out the numbers were no doubt affected by the 1.3m that tuned in for the Formula 1.

"Last round of 2020 until this season were largely affected by crowd restrictions and COVID. I dont really draw any conclusions from this - its going to be a while before things go back to how they were." SportsIndustry.

maybe Rugby League had its boosters

did Covid only affect Victorians ?

Interesting

That suggests that people who watch RL in general watched the NRLW GF as it was basically a pregame to the 4pm NRL game

Noting that 215k watched the 2019 NSW Cup GF

I still can`t work out why the Channel 9 and the NRL didn`t schedule the NRLW games to finish say 15 - 20 minutes before the start of the NRL game each Sunday, including the women`s GF.
I`m sure a fair few people have other things to do and time their day to come inside for the footy. Leaving such a large gap between the two games and the 1.30 p.m. start of the women`s game was probably a little too early for many people.
I wonder in the future given the popularity of the NRLW regular season we may see the women`s GF as the 4 p.m. Channel 9 Sunday game one day in the future.

The gap between games is for covid issues.
We had 45 min gap before covid as well

Its so broadcasters can yak on and show commercials

Only the 45 min gap between Flegg and NSW Cup was brought in because of covid

On another note, for once I had to switch from fox to Ch9 for the commentary. Bizzarre as it sounds :)
The fox commentary is terrible for NRLW.

Why disappointing? That’s a good number for a sport in the rise.

The saddest thing is fumbleball fans are so stupid and one-eyed they cannot see the media bias.

Oh they see it and they love it as would we if we had it, but unfortunately we have egalitarians always being even handed and accommodating to that abomination of a...whatever the hell it is?

I wish we had a super bias media in RL.

I`m sure a lot of that is due to our inability to break out of our lower socio-economic fan base, compounded by a steady drip-feed of poor player behaviour which only reinforces the stereotype of League as a game played by yobs. A stereotype, btw, which I think is largely unfair.
My three kids are at Uni. of NSW; my youngest who is in his second year of medicine and League mad, tells me you wouldn`t know League exists at that university, yet fumbleball is in there all the time giving away tickets and having promotions. Smart, because then you then build a fan base amongst tertiary educated types which of course then includes journalists.
An added bonus is also as well, you then attract that higher type value advertiser and sponsor.

I mean how hard is it for the number one sport in the State to at the very least do the same in all our States Unis? Honestly we are the dumbest billion dollar sport ever I would think. How many games are sellouts? Virtually none club wise. Surely we could offer tickets to all the club games in every round on a permanent basis.

Also we should get the players of those games to do the ticket distribution and promotion as part of their supposed commitment to partnering with the NRL and the promotion of the game that they promised to ramp up and get a lot more involved with, that we are all still eagerly waiting for.

Sydney for example has around 6 major universities. So giving away around 10K tickets per round depending on how many games are being played in Sydney on any given weekend would make for a great future investment strategy. We need our future leaders and elites to love our game, not ignore it or even worse think of it as lowly and only for dumb people to play and enjoy. While AFL is being viewed as the smart mans sport for the discerning and classy white collar elites to watch while sipping chardonnay and slurping oysters down their throats.

Surely head office get that right? Or they should ffs!
