I think Jesse Southwell (the incumbent NSW and 2 time premiership winning half back) had a fair claim on being well ahead of Pearson as the Blues half for this series and she is both ahead of Pearson in quality now and has a significantly higher ceiling that Pearson, even in her prime.

I think the truth is, Hilder picked the side and set the game plan and has to wear ALL the responsibility for the series loss - whilst the NRLW is limited in its current development in the coaching ranks with clear affiliations to existing clubs going to occur so there NEEDS TO BE a clear separation of team selections by a committee to ensure that the team selected is not coloured by bias or previous affiliations at the representative level and it clearly didn't happen in this series

As you mentioned it’s hard to seperate club affiliations but that aside Hilder just isn’t up to it, I mean given half the team are players from her own club they’d have some combinations and fluidity but the players deadset look like they’ve never met before.

Should have been Women's NSW coach these last few years. Never quite understood his "upgrade" to NSW Cup and it will be very interesting how the girls play this season without him at the helm.

Makes me wonder if he was pushed into the NSW Cup role or just decided it's not for him after a single season.

Well that's really disappointing. I was disappointed that he stepped down from coaching our NRLW team, especially as he'd been the one of the mens All-Stars coaches. He's clearly got a decent rap on him from people in the game. If he couldn't be our womens coach, I'd have liked to see him get a run as our mens coach.

To have him step down to a mens pathway team was disappointing in my eyes, but if he's now going across to NZ to coach their NRLW team, well, I'm even more disappointed.

THE Newcastle Knights have confirmed that Ronald Griffiths will join the Warriors at season's end, leaving behind a legacy of two NRLW premiership triumphs.


Griffiths coached the Knights to back-to-back grand final victories in the 2022-23 NRLW competitions before taking the reins of Newcastle's NSW Cup men's team this year.

He has accepted a three-year deal to coach the Warriors' NRLW side, who are re-entering an expanded 12-team competition next year after a five-season hiatus.

"As a family we're so grateful to be coming over to be involved with a club that has such a proud history," Griffiths said on the Warriors' website.

"It's exciting to start with a blank canvas, having the opportunity to build a women's programme from the ground up.

"I'll be working closely with the people in pathways to set up a structure that delivers sustainable success for the club and develops players and staff from within for the future."

Warriors CEO Cameron George said the club was "absolutely thrilled" to have secured a coach of Griffiths' quality.

"It was critical to appoint the best possible coach for this role and we've been able to do that," George said. "Ron has terrific coaching pedigree and will add tremendous value to our club as we make our way back in the NRLW."

Knights football director Peter Parr said Griffiths had made a "wonderful contribution" during his three seasons at the club.

"It cannot be understated what he has done for this club and the players he has directly influenced," he said.

"As a two-time premiership winning coach, he will always be remembered as a champion of the Newcastle Knights.

"Ronald departs with our eternal gratitude. We wish him, Chantelle and the family all the very best for the future."

The Warriors were one of four foundation NRLW clubs in 2018 and played in three campaigns before COVID travel restrictions forced them to shut down.

Griffiths has steered Newcastle's NSW Cup side to seven wins from 16 games this season. They are currently 10th in the 13-team competition.

Our girls are up against the raiders in NRLW trials, currently up 16-0 at half time (4 tries, declined the conversions). Look way too big, strong, fast and clinical for the poor raiders girls

I think Roosters have been tipped to win the last two years, no surprise they're being tipped again. Will be interesting to see how the coaching change affects us. The roster isn't that different with the core still there.

Southwell has already had more kicks find grass than Hastings has all season.

This is like watching the boys so far. Can barely get out of our own half, consistently giving them the ball back in our half. The difference so far is we're defending well.
