On the flip side its an interesting lived out thought experiment of what would happen in the NRL if wealth went unchecked, lol.

This reminds me of when we'd argue that the Knights would get nowhere until they had a decent Club behind them. Those that did could pay the quality players.
Yes, I remember that even though I can't remember what I had for lunch.
If we lose her it's on the club for not getting a decent deal behind her. That rests with Gardner imo.
We can only do so much, the commercial opportunities at the roosters and broncos as well as almost guaranteed rep jumpers and rep bonuses is well beyond what we’d be able to offer both within the cap and outside it.

They’re pledging to expand it again in the next few years too. Expect us to get raided more, Sharks, Dragons, Titans, etc, all looted. And Broncos/Roosters just stay as is.
Expansion will just dilute the talent pool even more for the rest of the teams besides the roosters and broncos. Whoever is running the NRLW obviously has no idea what they’re doing from a product point of view. There’s obviously a KPI that they’re looking at in terms of the number of teams but they’re completely ignoring the actual growth (or lack there of) of the the viewership and crowd numbers

It's a business after all. They want to be everywhere first and then let the talent grow eventually. I don't think it's a bad business strategy at all. The teams will get enough support for just existing atm. First mover advantage and all that.

For us fans it's snooze but I can see the thinking behind the NRLW's strategy.

Admittedly I'm not super active in supporting the NRLW (and I'm trending the same with the men these days), but if Southwell goes to the Broncos they have lost me and any chance they had at me for good.

Honestly what happened with Tamika was already bad enough. The competition is a Mickey Mouse show. What's the point? I'm not just a dumb wallet to be harvested.

As someone who lives outside of Newcastle supporting this team already involved extra investment in time and money to get my daughter to as many games as possible. She’s now seen her favourite players leave in consecutive years to the one club she hates the most.

I think I’ll just get her to the origin games and invest our time, money and support in the local women’s comps

Everyone criticised the AFLW for employing this exact approach. If the product is terrible you’re just going to keep throwing money down the drain.

To make matters worse we'll probably get knocked out with a smashing by her future club. Couldn't have written a better 'f**k you Knights' script if you tried.

On the other hand, Yasmin Clydesdale says she wants to work for the Knights when she retires from playing. Gotta love her.

Yeah I think they should do the opposite tbh. They've already expanded from 6 teams to 12 in the space of 3 years, that's plenty.

They'd be better served building the base of the clubs they already have and making sure they're consistently competitive in the long term, rather than thinking short term and constantly being focused on expansion, whilst ignoring the plight of 85% of the comp that's already there while 2 clubs dominate.

The media commentary during the lead up to the GF next weekend will be incredibly sickening and cringeworthy!

Im hearing that the NRLW will organise on GF day that the other 10 teams in the competition will get to do a lap around the field before the game in recognition for their hard work as supporting roles in making the mighty Roosters/Broncos look good throughout the season.

Can just hear those 2 fools, Jo Barrett and Tarsha Gale now…

“Isn’t it great to see the game come together and recognise the brilliance of these two incredible teams. The game is without doubt as strong as it’s ever been…”

Ah. Makes life as a halfback so much easier when someone else is calling the shots and doing all the big plays.

Other clubs establish a “culture over everything, nobody is bigger than the club” stance (Jeffries strikes me as this type of coach and he basically runs the whole women’s program) and that seems to work out great for them.

The Knights go for that with the NRLW program and you see a mass elite player exodus. Even after winning the comp twice and finishing top 3 four seasons straight. 😆

My Boss’ daughter plays in The Sharks pathways teams. She did her ACL. Club paid for her entire rehab and surgery: private cover - the lot. A very expensive op if you are waiting for one. The clubs are investing a lot of money in the girls’ development. In this case We are talking a 17 year old kid who has not even cracked NRLW yet. So it is not a token gesture putting these teams on the park.

These comments about Jess and her reasons for perhaps leaving are really ordinary.

Surely you can understand why posting unsubstantiated rumours about players' private lives isn't a great look, especially ones that could have additional implications as was also mentioned

Just on the most basic “not wanting to be a shitty person” level - none of the parties mentioned are public about that aspect of their private lives. Presumably not by accident. Don’t know why anyone else would decide it’s their place to make it public for them.
