oh please.
I watched him in that game and agree he was quiet. However i never expected much more from him , given it was his first game after being injured and taken off in the prior year finals game. That game was a nothing game trial , first game back from injury.
I suppose you thought Saints were dead set losers in the first round because they were rolled by Souths in the Charity trial game?

The ONLY real test for Reynolds is to play an Origin game with a forward pack that as a minimum holds its own.

Pearse has been tested and FAILED.
So has Mullins for that matter.

Please judging Reynolds based on last years NRL All stars game

did you even watch his 1 origin game?

Ignoring the glaring mistake in spelling his name, please tell me how 1 game 7 years ago is a test and fail

Maybe he meant Brett Mullins.

if so, I can understand him struggling with the pace of Origin at his age

I'd say Seder is definitely a halfback, and I can't see how he and Kelly don't swap numbers! Would like to see him considered for NSW, I reckon if he played for Souffs he would have had a chance by now.

I don't think Reynolds is up to it.

Sezer is the most like a halfback out of Mullen, Sezer and Carner. All 3 are basically 5/8ths, although you would be taking the LEAST gamble with Sezer!

Mullen does a lot of the organising at the Knights. Tyrone Roberts is more of the creative half while Mullen takes on the kicking and organising. A. Reynolds would fail in origin IMO, he doesn't take the line on nearly as enough but yes his kicking game is elite.

Reynolds took the line on a lot last Thursday. It isn't as if any of the other options do that a lot anyway. You need an elite kicker in general play, Reynolds is exactly that. Mullen like Carney is a bit inconsistent in his general field kicking. He can be on, but because he has an element of risk, he can be awful too. Reynolds is a bloke you can build pressure on the opposition with.

I don't see the point of making a big distinction between five eighth and halfback. Just pick the two best halves.

One of the reasons Pearce continually gets picked is because he's seen as a halfback while players like Mullen, Carney, Maloney, etc are considered as five eighths only. That limits Pearce's competition (Reynolds the only serious contender) automatically and combined with all the rest makes it easier to justify his selection at halfback.

Carney is a 7.

Mullen is a 6.

They are our best halves.

I dont share the hate for Pearce or Maloney, they are good players.

But I still say our best are not used.

One is an organiser, one is a running player. The best halfbacks do both e.g. Thurston when he plays there.

Thank you , i did mean Mullen , not Mullins.

I do agree with you and appears you agree with me.

The thrust of my original note was judging Reynolds based on 1 game last year . his first preseason game coming back from a Finals injury. If that game meant the end of his chances of Origin selection then all failures at Origin level should not be selected again.

As for Reynolds , his strengths for a halfback selection include his general kicking game , his goal kicking and defence with a reasonable passing game . He would not win an Origin based on his running game. However i would say the same for Cronk ( minus the goal kicking).

Fair enough Gale, it did look like you were being either hypocritical or ignorant

Yes I agree with you, Reynolds should not be judged on 1 All Stars appearance and imo deserves a shot

Mullen won't be ready in time I wouldn't think, will probably be only returning to club footy around Origin time.

Shame really as him and Carney are NSW's best halves. Not that either of them would have been picked anyway most likely.

The problem is Pearce being seen as a lock-in no matter how many times he fails. I have no problems with Maloney getting another go, but Pearce being an auto-pick means Mullen, Carney, and Reynolds, all superior players, just can't get a look-in. It is f**king ridiculous.

I wouldn't midn Mullens but last season I expected him to kick up a gear and he didnt. Mullens-Carney or Maloney-Carney wouldn't be a bad selection, I'm not sure about Reynolds yet and would prefer him to come in with a set 5-8 rather then this mixed bag. ATM i would play

Hayne, Morris, Jennings, Morris, Hopoate, Mullen, Carney, Grant, Farah, Tamou, Bird, Lewis, Gallen : Reynolds, Fafita, Mannah, Watmough.
