Can I ask why people want a bench utility? I just can't see why we need one with an 80 minute hooker

up until now, there were several opinions on halves and how to accommodate Hayne and Dugan and other backs, as well as a goal kicker.

The forwards, apart from Lewis and perhaps an extra prop or back rower on the bench were practically common amongst many teams here.

Fifita and Bird going out has really thrown thrown it wide open. Interesting to see what many folks come up with now.

We don't. The only utility we should bother with is Sutton, who can play backrow. Or Peats at a stretch who can play backrow too.

Josh Reynolds was a waste of bench space last year, he played like ten minutes and did nothing. Not a knock against him, but its pointless

Agreed. The top players are so versatile a utility is redundant. Hayne can play every position in the back line, Lewis and Watmough are back rowers who have started for their clubs at 5/8, Lewis in the outside backs for his state and country. IF Bird was available, he's started for his country and state at 5/8 too. If heaven forbid Farah did get injured mid-game, I'd prefer Pearce into hooker and one of the above into the halves (or even one of the above into hooker) than to carry a 'utility' who more than likely wont get a minute.

Why not just pick Michael Gordon or Pat Richards? Are they that much worse than the wingers you are picking? Gun goalkickers.

There may be room but I don't believe Tamou and Cordner need to be in the team.

Merrin does and I'd have Idris there also. Woods probably deserves it. Hopefully Hayne at FB is now settled. J Reynolds should be 6, 7 should still be open. Piss Maloney off.

OK, it looks like we are in some minor trouble with; Bird, and Fifita out. The good news is farah is a definite, Jennings and Luke Lewis is back from injury. I didn't see the Sharks game but if Luke played good then he will slot in off the bench perfectly.

Strongest team means starting lineup and bench. Gidley is a definite you watch this they will put him in even if I prefer maybe Reynolds or another second row. As for the rest, you can't deny Merrin, Luke Lewis, and Ryan Hoffman??
I know Woods and Tamou will go nicely as starting props. I think Merrin and Gallen will fit well as a rotating props for Woods and Tamou. If not, then maybe another prop on the bench e.g. Tim Grant. What do you think?

Jennings could be on the wing. Imagine Hopoate and Jennings on the same side. Hoppa is great at setting his winger up. The biggest down fall for Hop at the moment is his speed. But he gets great metres out of dummy half and is getting stronger. Putting Jennings on the wing outside Hopoate (on Boyds side) could really work well

Kurt Useless Gidley...oh dear that is your answer? Just no! As a Queenslander I hope the useless lemon is picked, unfortunately it won't happen! Josh Reynolds is the so called utility if you absolutely need one! Pick a goalkicker, whether that be Michael Gordon, Adam Reynolds or Pat Richards. You need an 85% kicker at Origin level!
