Captaincy is irrelevant anyway. If Farah is picked he is definitely captain

yep, this is the major issue and definitely why Sterlo is pushing for Wallace to be the acting half, even though he and farah are basically the same age, i.e, seems like a change for change's sake, but it's not.

if pearce is selected, he has to have authority over running the plays. Pearce's game depends on speed of service like he gets from friend at the rooters, and time and space to take on the line. farah meanders for himself and tries to be the play-maker. it doesn't suit pearce at all to get the ball with the defensive line already in his face.

gal and bird are gone, but keeping farah will still limit any good Pearce might be capable of doing. they're not compatible. if daley really wants farah, then he's better off pairing him with Moylan / Maloney.

he over played his role, like Gallen did. they'd both take 2 carries a set whenever they were on the park. other forwards rarely got a look in between them. i don't doubt his effort, but the problem NSW has had for years were players playing as individuals rather than as a team.

in contrast, QLD rarely had one forward standing out above the rest as they all contributed to the cause, then they got out of the f**king way on 4th and 5th tackles so Smith could get the ball quickly out to Cronk and/or Thurston, and you'd regularly see a winger on the end of a back line move. compared to that, the role of a NSW winger is to run out of acting half early in sets. they hardly see ball on the end of a backline move because it breaks down way too early through poor service out of acting half or Gal or Bird getting in the way one after the ruck, or we select centres such as Jennings and Dugan who don't pass.

all these players have good looking stats in terms of metres gained and number of carries and can be game breakers at club against your average nuffy, but it's the team game that wins matches against elite teams.
QLD don't need to worry about that at Origin level. They aren't playing against an elite team.

I like your thinking

Farah 33, Wallace 31. What's two years anyway?

You'd think Moylan would need good quick service just as much as Pearce, even more perhaps because it would have to get through the 7's hands as well..

I like how the media are now saying Pearce's pathetic Origin performances are due to him not having control of the side in the past. He's had 15 games and 15 failures.
I wonder what they'll be saying this time next year after he's failed in yet another series? Will we hear for the 4th time that he's finally mature and ready to dominate?

They are suggesting, not in as many words, that it was Gallen's fault, as he was running the side. So why did they keep picking Gallen?

I think it was more directed at Farah tbh. In regards to Gallen getting picked he was there because he was a proven strong performer in Origin and had earnt his spot. Something that Pearce has had 15 attempts at and can't achieve.

If Pearce never had control of the side, that in itself reflects poorly on his ability as a halfback. That is fundamental to the role of halfback. Watch Cronk or Thurston and they are constantly telling other players what they want from them.

The inability to grab an Origin game by the scruff of the neck is the flaw of Pearce. Hence all of the smokescreens that are thrown-up to divert blame from Pearce(which is what they are) betray that the hierarchy really are bothered by the failings of their pet player being spotlit. Note, they are not bothered by his failings. Only by the failings being brought to light.

It's about time that the NSW fanbase actually protested at the Origin game venue and showed the hierarchy that the continual selection of Pearce is sabotaging their chances of winning. A Blues grass-roots protest has to occur unless fans want to see Pearce selected for many more years to come.

Pearce himself, if he had any gumption would turn the selection down but he is stupid enough to believe his own publicity.

I so badly want Pearce to win a series just so he can rightfully stick the finger up at the shit the courier mail, the qld media and all Queenslander's in general.
I so badly want NSW to win a series and Maloney with Reynolds/Moylan is the best chance of it happening not Mitchell Pearce and the Chamber of Perpetually shit Origin performances.

Pearce has had plenty of times to grab the game by the scruff of the neck to win.

The infamous 5 on 2 overlap when he ran himself

Or when he over called Hokko in game 1 2014 who had called for a fg that would have won the game. Nah Pearce decides to spin it wide.

It's his choices on these plays that are remembered.

Funnily enough I almost want Pearce to fluke an Origin series win just so they absolutely pencil him in for the next decade.

This will be Pearce best chance to win a series. 2 games in NSW plus he will be playing behind what should be the better pack. Paired with a guy he knows(and proven performer) n Maloney and a freak like Teddy at the back.

Another series and another lead up where Daley has NFI who the important players in his squad will be until he sees the final couple weeks of games before announcement

NSW don't even know who the captain will be......that gives you an idea of what sort of issues NSW have before they even hunker down at the star.

Yeah yeah, more depth and competition for spots in NSW. Spare me. A coach should have an idea of what attributes and balance all players bring to the squad, and the compatibility to play alongside each other.

Instead, he listens to nuffies in the media who crap on about form. Hopefully sterlo is talking some sense into him.
