Nz kiwis four nations squad 2010 - mindblowing

Would Winterstein be a backup centre option?

It's his preferred position, though he hasn't even played there in the NRL, so that'd be risky.

That is a great team, Id go close to saying that it is better then the Australian squad. But these players at their worst are absolute shockers, but most are in form.

Aus vs NZ final easy.

A couple of sore points for me- first, the selection of Winterstein is just bizarre and pointless. Second, we are short of specialist props, and Russell Packer is a better prop than ANYONE in the squad. There are a couple of triple-barrelled pretenders in there (well, one in particular) who dream of being half as good as Packer. Kearney clearly has his favourites. Good squad all up though.

Agree...the forward pack is strong but there are a lot of ball players and no geniune props that will do the hard yards when the game is close.

Thats the best Kiwi squad ever, and i think Thomas Leuluai will surprise some of you because he is maturing into a very good player.

Jase, how is Rangi Chase going over there? I saw on the Super League site that Chase has topped the League in try assists, have set up 31 tries compare to Leuluai's 9! It might be worth giving Chase a run in the Kiwi team, or at least in the Maori team. The Kiwis could always use more than one creative playmaker.

I would fit Matulino into the 17 to start with...we have a lot of ball players in the forwards but not a lot to do the grunt work IMO.

We will probably have Warea-Hargreaves ahead of him though. I love JWH as a player and I love his intensity, but would much prefer Matulino in a Kiwi side that includes Pritchard, Eastwood, FPN and Blair. Matulino can put a better, cleaner shot on than anyone I know of as well

Agree on Winterstein and on Packer- he should have been the first prop picked.

Who are the pretenders you are referring to?

In all seriousness, can't believe all the "best kiwi squad ever" calls...

First, where is Roy? Surely he's the best prop we have, and Packer's probably next...

Obvious weakness at halfback (Kiwi Nathan Fien is serviceable), and beyond SKD the centres aren't strong... and Hohaia has plenty of mistakes in him...

In saying that, we're a good chance of winning the thing!

Guys, this is such a strong kiwis side.Im getting on them for sure at $5. My team would be
1.L Hohaia 2.M vatuvai 3.J sa'u 4.S K Dowall 5.J Nightingale\S Perrett 6.B Marshell 7.N Fein 8.Fui Fui Moi Moi 9.I Luke 10.B Harrison 11.F Pritchard 12.S Mannering 13.A Blair 14.J Haregraves 15.J Smith 16. S manu 17. G Eastwood

i think I luke is good for 80mins so stuck with 4 forwards for the bench, not sure why Asotasi wasnt named so didnt include him but jeez its a strong side and with games in nz i really think they ll win it

 Is that you Tim Sheens

Harrison is not a props arsehole but he should be the starting Second rower

Love Roy Asotasi, but he was struggling to make the Rabbitohs on form

i see alot of weakness in the squad...
Junior Sau - terrible. Would be in NSW at most clubs
Winterstein - QLD Cup/NSW Cup player
Waerea-Hargreaves - Most over rated player to lace up a boot. Makes minimal metres and hit ups per match. Looks for a 'hit' by blind siding players....

Aussies will put 40 on them.

At full strength:

1. Lance Hohaia
2. Jason Nightingale
3. Shaun Kenny-Dowall
4. Steve Matai
5. Manu Vatuvei
6. Benji Marshall
7. Nathan Fien
8. Sam Rapira
9. Issac Luke
10. Roy Asotasi
11. Adam Blair
12. Simon Mannering
13. Jeremy Smith

14. Lewis Brown (utility)
15. Bronson Harrison
16. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves
17. Russell Packer

18th man: Sam Perrett

That is the team I would have picked if everyone was at full strength and fitness.

1. Kevin Locke
2. Antonio Winterstein
3. Junior Sau
4. Jerome Ropati
5. Bryson Goodwin
6. Kieran Foran
7. Thomas Leuluai
8. Sika Manu
9. Aaron Heremaia
10. Fuifui Moimoi
11. FP Nuuausala
12. Zeb Taia
13. Greg Eastwood

14. Alex Glenn (utility)
15. Frank Pritchard
16. Ben Matulino
17. Jeff Lima

18th man: Fetuli Talanoa

Tony Williams and Joseph Leilua pledged their allegiances to Australia, Krisnan Inu is in horrible form, while young forwards Mose Masoe, Sam McKendry, Eddy Pettybourne, Bodene Thompson and Ukuma Ta'ai are still fairly raw and probably not ready yet.

Where is Zeb Taia? The only backrowers in that squad who are better than him are Harrison and maybe Pritchard (when he's on fire) surely? Has Mannering had a great year? I know he's a good player but he would've wanted to play pretty bloody well this year to be considered ahead of him.

Anyway very surprised that possibly NZ's best player (top 3 at worst) in the Anzac Test can't even get into the 23 player squad. Had a screamer of an 09 season and was always one of the Knights best when fit in 2010.

As for Sau, he has been a bit average this year, but certainly not poor. Being a Knights supporter, I was stoked at his form in the last 4 nations and hope it appeared in the NRL this year (which it didn't). He seems to be able to pass left to right pretty well when he played right side for NZ, but struggles to pass right to left when playing left side for th Knights. I wonder if SKD will play right side - and if so, there would have to be a fair chance that Sau would contribute his very average form on the left.

JWH is a good player as well but is still young and tends to give penalties away.

Matulino goes about his business in a consistent manner and is the type of player we need to take that 2nd or 3rd hit up.
