Nz kiwis four nations squad 2010 - mindblowing

What's the word on Josh Hoffman? Changed his mind?
Never was on his mind.

Kiwi officials got ahead of themselves after they found out he COULD play for NZ. Really though...he's a definite Aussie. Good to see him stick to his country, shame that it has probably cost him a representative career.

Surprised Winterstein made it, he was essentially the Broncos Fetuli Talanoa. But good on him, considering where he came from to be playing representative football is a major achievement.

Congrats to the Dragons boys for making it. Nightingale can play full back if required. I'm sure that's the position where he played most of his junior football. On Fien, he played a couple of games at half back this year and was close to our best player on those occasions. And as other people have mentioned he was arguably NZs best player in the 2008 WC in that position. I'm tipping Smith to be the MVP for NZ.

Depth will be tested in the halves and centres if injuries hit. Will really miss Matai and Foran. Ropati injured??? Not in his best form but could have been added to squad.

Great squad. With Ropati, Matai, Foran and Rapira missing through injury and McKendry (who I am a massive wrap on and should consider himself quite unlucky), Packer and to a lesser extent Asotasi not even making the squad it speaks volumes about the depth of talent that NZ have at the moment. This must be the strongest position that New Zealand have been in from a depth perspective for a long time. Maybe ever?

Depending what they get out of the halves they will win the tournament.

Thats the best Kiwi squad ever, and i think Thomas Leuluai will surprise some of you because he is maturing into a very good player.

I think so too. He had a blinder in the GF. A worthy Harry Sunderland trophy winner.

i havent seen Leuluai play for a while so i'll try to reserve my judgement.. but jeez some of the times i've seen him play he was terrible. Having said that, he played well in the 08 WC Final at hooker.. and this team seems quite strong across the field

should be a great tournament.. can't wait

Agreed, best kiwis ever. Weaknesses fullback and left centre only. Will be interesting to see what he does with Blair, Mannering, Matulino and Pritchard, given Harrison and Smith should have two backrow positions locked up. Brown to. They all deserve a run. To leave out Packer and McKendry he must be thinkinh of using Frank Paul and Blair as props. Many of our forwards play both second row and prop!

Sau is a disappointment as he is one of the few players in the squad not in form. Sika Manu also. They are lucky that Kearney loves them. I would be very very tempted to play Lewis Brown at left centre against Samoa to see how he goes. He and Sau are totally opposite though.

So will New Zealand register a 24th player like they did last year with Pettybourne?
was wondering why there was only 23...maybe they'r eholding the spot for covell to lure him out of retirement. poor bastard only got 5 minutes or so...

JWH and Moimoi off the bench...scary !!!.

Good team with massive potential...my only query is Mannering back in the centres when it is not his main possie now.

I would fit Matulino into the 17 to start with...we have a lot of ball players in the forwards but not a lot to do the grunt work IMO.

Guys, this is such a strong kiwis side.Im getting on them for sure at $5. My team would be
1.L Hohaia 2.M vatuvai 3.J sa'u 4.S K Dowall 5.J Nightingale\S Perrett 6.B Marshell 7.N Fein 8.Fui Fui Moi Moi 9.I Luke 10.B Harrison 11.F Pritchard 12.S Mannering 13.A Blair 14.J Haregraves 15.J Smith 16. S manu 17. G Eastwood

i think I luke is good for 80mins so stuck with 4 forwards for the bench, not sure why Asotasi wasnt named so didnt include him but jeez its a strong side and with games in nz i really think they ll win it

A couple of sore points for me- first, the selection of Winterstein is just bizarre and pointless. Second, we are short of specialist props, and Russell Packer is a better prop than ANYONE in the squad. There are a couple of triple-barrelled pretenders in there (well, one in particular) who dream of being half as good as Packer. Kearney clearly has his favourites. Good squad all up though.
