A few observations and questions from the Samoa game:
1. The kiwis are quality and can def win the 4N. The forwards are powerful and quick, Marshall, Luke and fien are dangerous enough to worry australia, and they have quality finishers.
2. Leuluai is an ordinary halfback but a dangerous dummy half runner. Will Kearney rotate leuluai, fien and luke like he did last night, with leuluai starting at halfback? Or will he start fien at half and bring leuluai on to give luke a spell?
3. The selection of eastwood and Blair as props looks the goods - they both bent the line and had quick ptbs, and have good defensive mobility.
4. The kiwis attacked the right side at least as often as the left. With Nightingale and dowall in form
the kiwis have strike on both sides for the first time in years. Sau is still a weak link.
5. The backrowers haven't really learnt to run inside lines off Marshall and fien when they drift wide (though pritchard scored the last try like that). If they get those combinations going they will be hard to stop.
6. Hohaia is weak defensively and fullback is the one area australia has a clear advantage. Would perret be safer at the back? Is hohaia creativity needed if fien Marshall, Luke and leuluai are all being heavily used?
Can't wait for Oz v nz, should be an absolute belter.
