Jones: ‘I can see the hunger in him again’

By Tony Adams

December 2, 2016

NEW ZEALAND’S greatest modern player Stacey Jones has taken Kieran Foran under his wing and is preparing the troubled star for his much-anticipated return to football.

Foran’s life unravelled in 2016, with the former Manly and Parramatta star revealing he attempted suicide after the breakup of his family and had issues with depression.

But Jones, a Kiwi icon, has taken a personal interest in Foran since his decision to link with the Warriors and believes the strife-torn playmaker is ready to turn the corner.

“Kieran has had a rough year, no doubt about it,” Jones says.

“But we have had some good, long talks and he’s in much better shape mentally and physically. He’s ticking all the right boxes and is hungry to play footy again after his rough trot.

“I can see the hunger in him again – at the end of the day, he’s a football player, he wants to play footy.”

Jones believes despite his problems, Foran is just what the Warriors needed to gain the hard edge the team has lacked for several seasons.

“We all know he’s tough and he’s a competitor and to be honest, that is probably something this club has lacked for a while,” says Jones.

“It’s a massive opportunity for him and he’s ready to grab it.”

Another former Warriors skipper, Monty Betham, also sees Foran as a potential saviour for the Kiwi side.

“I like everything about his game. He leads by example, knows how to boss a game and will set the tone with or without the ball when his side needs it,” says Betham.

“He’s just what the Warriors need and he’ll take some of the pressure off Shaun Johnson’s shoulders.”

News Limited apparently offering redundancies in a bid to cut costs... wonder if Rothfield will put his hand up for a package, now that his Sharks are reigning premiers?

So whats hapening with the Foz thing ? IIRC his contract @ Warriors requires him to be registered by NRL @ 31 Dec 16.

How can O'Sullivan (Roosters) be rubbed out of the game and Foz just be forgotten ? Both had involvement with a warned off merkin and (allegedly) allowed their accounts to be used by said merkin. Then there are the Manly betting allegations. Has that investigation been concluded ?

FoxSports in their 2017 Predictions are in nothing-to-see-here mode.

WARRIORS’ TIME TO SHINE

Given their roster this prediction may not seem that ‘fearless’ but any time you’re banking on the Warriors to deliver your heart’s going to be in your throat.

There’s plenty of evidence to suggest that Stephen Kearney is a far better coach now than during his failed tenure at the Eels and with Kieran Foran on deck, he’s in a great position to make an immediate impact.

Bookmark this page — the Warriors will finish in the top four in 2017.

Where is the evidence that Kearney is a better coach now than when he was with us?

Apart from having a much more talented team, of course.

Foran plays with fire

The NRL has been privately saying for months that it won't clear Kieran Foran to play for the Warriors in round one – and if he doesn't stop hanging around his good mate, the former brothel owner and pro punter Eddie Hayson, it won't be happening at all.

Foran and Hayson – who is at the centre of a match-fixing investigation, albeit one that doesn't seem to be going anywhere – vowed to leave each other alone so the troubled footballer could pick up the pieces of his career after walking out on Parramatta to deal with personal issues.

Staying away from Hayson was one of the conditions the NRL set down for Foran late last year if he was to have a playing contract registered.

Head office hasn't been too pleased to learn of the pair being seen together during the off-season.
