Inspired by the Metallica thread. What are your favourite musos? I got a few:

* Michael Jackson: greatest entertainer who ever lived and who ever will live IMHO. He wrote his music, lyrics, danced, acted (albeit in bad films), donated lots of his time and bucketloads of money to charity...He truly, truly, TRULY was the King IMO. An incredible, once in a generation talent.

* Eric Clapton: when I first heard people call him God, I thought 'sif! Then I heard "Layla". THEN I heard "Tears From Heaven", and I knew...This man is a musical genius. His skill with the guitar is matched only by his ability to write beautiful songs. "Tears From Heaven" is an incredible song, spurned on by the incredible grief he felt at the deaths of his four year-old son and Stevie Ray Vaughan within days of each other. Truly a gifted musician.

* Mikael Akerfeldt: best known for his vocals and song-writing for Swedish band Opeth, but he has collaborated with Bloodbath and even written his own stuff. He can do anything - acoustics, electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, clean vocals, growls...He is able to write lyrics that can be menacing and gentle at the same time. A very talented man. He is so well-respected, "Metalcolaypse" based their character Toki Wartooth on him.

* Billy Thorpe: I don't think I need to say why, but here goes...I wasn't familiar with much of his work, bought "Tangier" and it blew my mind. Amazing vocals, incredibly rich sound, combining sounds from traditional rock, middle eastern and Indian influences and just an amazing album. I checked out his other stuff after hearing "Tangier" and I was very impressed.

* Devin Townsend: the skullet. Writer of some great riffs and some interesting lyrics. Needs to release more music!

* Toad The Wet Sprocket: wrote one of my favourite songs of all time, "Fly From Heaven". Wrote other beautiful music, too.

Jascha Heifetz - Arguably the best violinist of the 20th century.
Led Zepellin - Legends, nothing less.
Craig Mabbitt - Bit of a poser nowadays, but was an absolute beast vocalist back when he was in blessthefall.

I won't lie, I was never a big fan of Michael Jackson, but he definitely had arguably the biggest influence in modern music, really defined the standards that are lacking nowadays.

* Michael Jackson - Just amazing, he didn't completely write alot of his absolute classics but i don't think anyone else could have ever delivered them like he could! Man in the Mirror, just, wow!

* Jonathan Davis - lead singer of Korn is just about one of the most talented musicians, regardless of what you think of Korn, the dude can play just about any instrument (and well) and is able to conduct an orchestra, co-wrote the score for the movie Queen of the Damned with Richard Gibbs and also wrote about 5 songs that Lestat's band played in the movie. He has a solo album coming out of which the demo's sound amazing!

* Dave Mustaine - Megadeth, anyone who has heard Rust In Peace would understand..... plus all the rest of their stuff = musical genius.

* Dimebag Darrell - Pantera, what this guy could do on guitar was awesome, the world lost a true genius and gentleman the day he died.

* Metallica - Collectively up until The Balck album were amazing

* David Bowie - Pushed alot of boundaries and re-invented himself time and time again.

* Dr Dre/Eminem - I'm not a massive rap fan but love Eminem and these 2 together are unstoppable, Eminem is a lyrical genius, if you don't get lost in the swearing he has something very good to say.....and Dre has the best beats!!!

* Paul Van Dyk - Trance/Hard Trance producer, he has come up with some of the all-time best trance songs ever made....For an Angel, awesome!

I know there are plenty of other talented people and i do not doubt that everyone thinks theirs is the best BUT we all put down who ours are because it is who WE listen to.

Some of the others like Clatpon, Lennon etc. i know are geniuses but they are a little out of my time period in life. I appreciate their songs and they are truly gifted, i just haven't listened to them like i do the above.......

My favourite band is and always will be Linkin Park.
My favourite single artist is Stan Walker, followed closely by Michael Buble.
What Michael Jackson did for the world of music cannot be overstated enough, he was without doubt the King of Pop.
Nowadays I mainly listen to any form of music, especially orchestral stuff.

He's brilliant, isn't he?

Awesome list! I'll admit I wasn't aware of Seo Taiji - but Wikipedia and YouTube helped me out and I'm glad they did!

Yeah I agree.

Excellent list!

The Angels are the best I have ever seen.

John Lennon
Simon and Garfunkel

Haha choice, bro!

Favourite solo artist is without a doubt Eminem, nobody even comes close, in terms of bands, Foo Fighters are my favourite with Linkin Park running a close second.

Eminem is the man. Dave Grohl...Is there anything he can't do? Sing, write lyrics, write music, play piano, drums, bass, guitar...Very talented man.

Hard to go past Queen and AC/DC

Modern bands Linkin Park and Nickelback are my favs.

Love a bit of Johnny Farnham

Yes, yes and yes!

I remember growing up in Spain and hearing "You're The Voice". It blew me away. Terrific song!
