It's not up to Gidley to resign. The Blues Captaincy is an honour bestowed.

Although it's a better team, these selectors have picked no real impact players but plenty of 80 minute players. I'm confused as to who will replace who and what sort of impact someone like Nathan Hindmarsh will have off the bench.

I'm a big fan of Hindy and I think he probably should have been selected as the starting captain from at least the beginning of last years (2009) series, but selecting him from the bench in game two of this series after years in the rep wilderness is strange.

I guess no one noticed, but we all know that Leoroyd-Lahrs will play prop, Queensland has picked but one prop on the bench. The others are back-rowers in Costigan and Taylor.

Also any news regarding the outcomes of fitness tests? If Scott, Weyman and White are still under injury clouds is it possible other players could be called into camp? It might end up a blessing in disguise.

This team isnt perfect but it is alot better than the first game. It has more of a balance and with Hayne at FB and Barrett/Pearce in the halves we actually have attacking options and people in their right position. The only swap i would make is Hindmarsh to start for Waterhouse but that team will go alot better, at least they put Gidley on the bench

Beau Scott? Brett White starting? FMD...... improved team from the first game, but we have centres who can't score tries if their lives depended on it. Brett White is one of the biggest myths in the game, how the f**k did this guy get a starting spot

LMFAO, put the crack pipe down

hahaha, I'm just happy that Gidley isn't in the halves and isn't starting.

Also no centres have been put on the bench, and Gallen, hindmarsh and LOD are in the side (although last two should be starters with Gallen). Also, there is finally a new fullback.

I really do believe we have a good chance in this game, I have a feeling :S

The one thing I hope they don't do though is rush Gidley on within the first half. I only want him on in the second half (if that or not at all) and that is only to replace Ennis. I got a feeling they will bench Pearce or Barrett just for the sake of giving Gidley a go in the second half.

NSW have had zero go forward in 4 years and we again go in with 2 specialist props. THE MIND BOGGLES.

Snowden, Mannah and Douglas should have all got a run.

Why bench Hindmarsh? He is not an impact player last time I looked.

I don't understand the Jennings hate. The 2nd best centre in the comp behind Inglis and he can't get a look it.

Well at least Gidley isn't starting.

King back for Manly, brilliant.

I really can't believe Gidley is on the bench, never ever thought they would do it. What's the bet Bellamy does a shuffle and he ends up starting, he had Brett Stewart starting off the bench a few years ago for that gimp.

Swap Hindmarsh and Waterhouse and it looks a LITTLE better, Waterhouse is more up to the job of front rower than Hindy. Stupid that they haven't picked even one specialist prop on the bench though. Just one of Mannah/Douglas/Snowden/Tolman would have made this team look a bit more physical.

Waterhouse is a bum. Did nothing in game 1 and should have been sent packing. I would have liked TLL to start in the second row and 2 props on the bench.

A much better team than game 1. Especially cause we have actual halves in the halves and Gidley is on the bench :) and also cause bitch tits gimmick Idris is left right out! We can actually win this game now. :D

I think that it's a FAR better team than game 1. Players aren't being picked out of position in the backline for a change (with the exception of Tahu but that's not an issue). and Gidley if FINALLY back on the bench where he belongs (although if Lewis were fit I wouldn't pick him at all). But I still have issues with it:

1 - The team has been clearly picked with defence in mind (eg defensive centres in Scott and Cooper, 2 80 min second rowers on the bench)
2 - The attack will revolve too much around Hayne, Morris and Pearce and will probably be easy to shut down...
3 - Aside from Gidley there is not much in the way of impact coming off the bench, and it lacks size and go forward. LOD and TLL will have to have the games of their lives to provide the sort of impact a bench player needs to give in Origin.

All of this spells a NSW side that will be stronger in defence than the last few sides picked, but also weaker in attack. I suppose NSW's attack has been pretty screwed of late anyway (I'm hoping Pearce will change that) but overall I think NSW can only win this if they keep the scores low.

So Jennings or Lawrence would bring a creative and constructive attack?? I thought that was the job of the half and 5/8. Jennings was going to call the shots and make the 5th tackle plays? Or was it Lawrence that's going to kick us out of trouble???

as for Gasnier forcing Scott back to second row, if Gasnier was to return to the Tigers as left centre then Lawrence would be dropped all together from FG.

I am biased but I doubt Gasnier would get in front of Lawrence at the tigers. We score so many points down the left hand side of the field because of the Benji and Lawrence combination. Lawrence is great at setting up his outside man or drawing defenders for a cut out pass. Look at how many tries TNT and Lote have scored down that side in the last 2 years.

Plus Lawrence is a far far far better defender than Gasnier.

What a joke that Gidley is still captain and on the bench....it is like some fat 10 yr old kid who still wins a prize after coming last by 1000 lengths in 100m race.

Gidley...the selectors have made you the laughing stock on the NRL.

Yes they have.

MUCH better side - but still fairly mysterious in the prop department...

picking only 2 guys who play prop at club level seems like a recipe for disaster to me. Watch the blues get stuck around the 55-65minute mark with absolutely no go-forward at all. Everyone will bay for the blood of the halves - but in reality they're handcuffed because they got no props to go forward for them.

note for the new selectors in 2011: PICK 4 PROPS PLEASE. It's not rocket science - it's a weekly reality in the NRL. Ask the Tigers how well they went in seasons gone without props. 4 props is the standard, and in the end you just got to pick the best 4 available and live with it.
